IDEAL Society

IDEAL Society

Institute for the Development in Education, Arts, and Leisure

IDEAL Society is a collectivity composed of members of all ages hailing from various nationalities, cultures, religions and backgrounds. Uniting this group is a common ideal of fraternity among people. Since 1993 our shared collective life in the beautiful mountains of southeastern British Columbia forms an experimental framework and environment in which to grow in harmony with nature, while contributing to the well-being of the group and larger community in a spirit of sustainable development.

Todos Santos Cohousing Ecovillage

Todos Santos Cohousing Ecovillage

Connecting to one another in our neighborhood by creating a space where we can come together to create and have a caring community. There are many pieces of land for sale in our neighborhood that are reasonably priced. Already we have 4 families that live very close to one another that are interested in this project. Our vision is that people buy their own piece of land whether they are a family, single person or group.

The Eco VIllage Engine

Our villages are built creating an open source to be shared to demonstrate how to build safely, affordably, and efficiently with maximal use of reclaimed/recycled materials. The design of the Recycled Materials Village is an earthship-inspired semi-subterranean design that will provide 47 individual lots with living units that also include a village shop and 14 common areas. The common areas will include dining and social space large enough to seat 150+ people, an art space, music room, dance room, yoga/meditation space, library, game room, gym, and relaxation and socialization room.

Jaguarapira Wildlife Reserve

Jaguarapira Wildlife Reserve

In 1994, as a master’s student in forest science, I started a project to restore the vegetation of a piece of land I eventually bought in 1998. Located near the base of a granite dome in southern Brazil, the property had originally harbored a mix of Atlantic Forest and the almost extinct Araucaria Forest, but these had been severely degraded by mining. After 22 years of restoration the forest cover is back as well wildlife.

Thank you to two of my dearest friends, a couple of beloved soul mates that I am blessed to walk this planet with, I have received a donation of enough money to now go and buy a hectare or two in the Sierra of Oaxaca, where I always imagined the project to take place.

Coastal Roots Farm

Coastal Roots Farm

Under construction

Coastal Roots Farm is a nonprofit community farm and education center where we nourish connections—to ourselves, our neighbors, and the land. Inspired by Jewish wisdom and centuries-old agricultural traditions, we practice sustainable farming and share our harvest with communities that lack access to healthy food. Our goal is to become a model for community farming and creative Jewish expression, both at home in Encinitas, California, and around the world.
