Experimental Prototype Community of Tommorow Showcase will be set on 11ha of rural land in Norfolk Island. The purpose of this project is to showcase and increase biodiversity and fauna habitat, as well as improve the way of life for islanders. The land is a connection to a corridor from the National Park to the designated special landscape value (Mosley). The EcoVillage will provide an overview of Permacultural practices with a hands on approach to education.
Historically, this property represents one of the first productive farms on Norfolk Island, and as such was cleared. This project aims to recreate sustainable living practices with hands on approach. The village will represent an effective, accessible way to combat the degradation of our social, ecological and spiritual environment of our island. The village will be open to the public and show how we can move toward sustainability in the 21st century (Agenda 21).The site has already undertaken significant manual clearing of the area as part of site preparation works. Removed woody and herbaceous weeds, chipped material and mulching of the site has occurred. It is important to note that all activities undertaken are chemical free due to our wish to gain organic certification of the property in the future. We are the first and only farm on the island to register with Biological Farmers of Australia for organic certification. We are currently in stage 1 of the village. Our current website is being re- developed to reflect the use of the methodology of he ecological footprint and the EPCOT SHOWCASE for the EcoNorfolk village.
