Rancho Estrella is a hybrid working ranch and mini-ecovillage. We strive to integrate a supportive social environment with a low-impact way of life. To do this, we incorporate aspects of community design, permaculture, green building, systems theory and alternative energy into our daily lives.
By creating a strong community, fostering sustainable means of economic production and living in harmony with nature, we intend to create a self-sustaining system which can endure well into the future.
The longer-term vision for Rancho Estrella is to work toward a more sustainable model as we strive to build a stronger community and become more self-sufficient.
The coming year will see the introduction of a chicken flock, planting of fruit trees, acquisition of electric vehicles for farm work, and design and implementation of Phase 1 of the property’s water retention, storage and treatment plan.
The next five years will see ever-increasing solar PV (electric) and solar thermal production, expansion of on-site agriculture, and integration of more permaculture solutions at the ranch. We hope to sell produce at the Sonoma Farmer’s Market, which will give us visibility to consult with members of the community about sustainability.
