Introducing the eurotopia Directory 2014: Communities and Ecovillages in Europe
The 2014 eurotopia European Communities Directory is the fifth edition of the popular book and it's available in English and in German. It's been published in the German ecovillage of Sieben Linden by people who live in communities themselves. Since 1996 the eurotopia team reaches out to thousands of alleged communities in Europe to collect the actual existing ones in this book. Only projects responding to this call for submissions are included. They range from respected multi-generational co-housing projects to colourful idealists trying to get by without much structure. Some have a religious focus, some share their finances.
It might just hit the nail to call living in community a great adventure: after all, it has challenges, emotions, great moments as well as some downsides. It is not always easy, but it’s intensive and rewarding – that’s the message in the articles of the new eurotopia book. Apart from these articles about living in community, about scientific acknowledgement of communities, about successful founding of communities and about the worldwide impact of intentional communities (contributed by American community writer Diana Leafe Christian), the new directory contains
-Descriptions of 430 intentional communities, ecovillages, co-housing projects
-Introductions of community networks with more community addresses
-Useful addresses in Europe and beyond.
For sure, eurotopia is the most comprehensive piece about the European community scene – and the international edition is always striving to get even more communities on board, as well as resellers in all European countries. Eurotopia is available as a book only*, but it features an online search at http://www.eurotopia.de/booksearch - the results are page numbers in the eurotopia book.
The directory is available (with reasonable rates for international shipping) at http://www.eurotopia.de, but do check your favourite local bookstore or online dealer for eurotopia.
