International reforestation volunteer community in India, Haiti and Kenya

About me

We are an international water conservation and reforestation project active in three continents. We are a community of volunteers and welcome volunteers and visitors year round. We work on indigenous reforestation, food security and various other projects. As a community we practice ecological restoration, veganism, gift economy, natural learning and simple sustainable off-the-grid living.
We engage in seva (selfless service) for about 25-35 hours a week. Our seva primarily consists of reforestation and water conservation, as well as general tasks that sustain the project as a whole.
Our dynamic community is composed of people of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world. We have found that living and sharing in a communal atmosphere brings us into harmony with nature and with ourselves; as one of our community members commented when she left, “May there be many forests to grow people.”
We welcome and accept everyone who wishes to get involved with us, any time of year, and we always have plenty of space available and plenty of work to do! You do not need to have a background in forestry or water conservation in order to enjoy and participate in our seva (selfless service).
We practice an eco-friendly way of life including veganism, alternative construction, solar energy, biodegradable toiletries, compost toilets and conscious consumption. In Sadhana Forest we eat a pure vegan diet, which means no animal products from living or deceased animals. We eat fruits, vegetables, whole-grain brown and red rice, millets, herbs, spices, beans, and dal, and source as much as is possible from local and regional organic farms.
All volunteers are asked not to smoke cigarettes (including both local “bidis” and electronic cigarettes), use drugs, or drink alcohol, inside or outside of Sadhana Forest, during their entire stay! This guideline helps us always to remain fully aware of our behavior and maintains our personal health, safety and security. It is also our way of supporting those who would like to live a life free of these substances. Only come to Sadhana Forest if you are 100% sure that you are able and willing to completely respect this request. Volunteers who do not respect this guideline will be immediately instructed by the Project Director to leave Sadhana Forest for at least 6 months.

Social Media Intern for GEN International Hours: Up to 20/month, flexible around your schedule and availability Location: Remote, work with Eva Goldfarb Focus: Instagram + LinkedIn (TikTok if you’re into it!) Hi! I’m Eva, and I run social media for GEN International — the global network connecting ecovillages, intentional communities, and regenerative culture-builders across every continent. I’m looking for a co-conspirator to help me tell the stories of the people quietly building the future: off-grid villages in the Philippines, permaculture farms in Senegal, urban cohousing projects in Berlin, elders passing down land wisdom in the Andes. It’s a wildly rich, wildly underrepresented world, and I want more people to fall in love with it the way I have. What you’ll actually do: Dream up and create content for Instagram and LinkedIn (reels, carousels, stories, captions that don’t sound like a corporate newsletter) Dig into our global network and turn your findings into stories people want to share Pitch your own ideas. If there’s a series, a theme, a format, or a corner of the network that lights you up, that’s what I want you to focus on. What we’re looking for: A natural storyteller, someone who can spot the human thread in a project update or a photo from a faraway village Genuinely curious about ecovillages, sustainability, intentional community, regenerative living Self-motivated and communicative; this is a flexible, trust-based role Why this role: This isn’t a “post 3x a week and don’t ask questions” internship. You’ll have real creative freedom to work on what excites you, learn how a global grassroots network tells its story, and build a portfolio full of meaningful, purpose-driven content. Plus you’ll be talking to people living some of the most interesting, intentional lives on the planet. If storytelling for a better world sounds like your kind of fun, let’s talk.

Permaculture Design Certificate

Join us in Frelighsburg, QC for a full-time, two-week Permaculture Design Certification. The PDC program follows the internationally recognized curriculum provided by Bill Mollison. During this course, we will observe and follow the natural principles that drive ecological systems. We will learn, through both theory and hands-on practice, how to integrate these principles in designing our lives, homes, lands, and communities. Upon completion of this course, you will obtain your Permaculture Design Certificate. This certification will allow you to pursue a permaculture diploma and give you the fundamentals to begin integrating permaculture principles into your career, life, endeavours or enterprise. This course is held on a 268-acre domain equipped with a private lake, a beautiful little river with a small waterfall, all of which is located 1km from the sacred Abenaki mountain of Mont Pinacle (visible from the house) and 3km away from the charming village core of Frelighsburg, QC. It is 5km away from the Vermont border and thus, easily accessible for our neighbours to the South. The property has a small apple orchard area with 4 different kinds of apples trees growing. The land is partially forested with 2 long walking trails and partly cleared (about 5 acres) for 2 organic agricultural projects. The property enjoys lots of sunshine and privacy. And there is a fire pit area with seating and picnic tables. The host will provide some farming tools to share with the participants and you are welcome to bring yours also. There is a canoe and kayak for early morning boating on the lake and there is also the possibility of a small sweat spot near the lake for our PDC guests in August. Our family is thrilled to be sharing our seed farm and indigenous gardening spaces with you! >Price: $1,220 CAD (includes course, materials, food, campsite). Topics: Introduction, ethics, principles Concepts, methods and themes in design Observation of systems and patter
