Why Update the Map?
Imagine being able to find ecovillages anywhere you wanted to go, just by a simple search.
Or having people be able to find your eco-community and connect with you easily.
If you have been searching for an ecovillage in a particular region and not finding any, or struggling to attract members to your community, this map update is important news!
While GEN has a map that helps you do all that already, it’s outdated, lacks some key features, and can be clunky to use.
With your help, GEN will be able to create an updated Ecovillage Map that:
- Connects you to ecovillages faster and more effectively
- Offers easier to use and expanded search features
- Improves how communities can use their ecovillage profiles

Why This Matters
The GEN Ecovillage Map is our most used tool. In 2024 alone, 63,300+ people used the ecovillage directory. An upgraded map will empower even more individuals and communities to take the next step toward regeneration, connection, and transformation.

The Ripple Effects of the GEN Map
The GEN Ecovillage Map first came online in 2002. In 12 years, 1,250+ ecovillages have self-identified using the map. With this new map, we expect to attract more communities to list themselves, resulting in more visibility for ecovillages and higher chances of aspiring ecovillagers to find their community match.
Additionally, we want to offer more features for each community profile in order to better spotlight the unique offerings of each ecovillage.
This update benefits ecovillage seekers, builders, and the entire global network.
The more we can show the world that the ecovillage movement is strong, the higher impact we can have on the global transition to a more sustainable, regenerative, meaningful way of life.
