Patanga formed from a group of people living in Sydney who purchased the land and formed a company structure (Memorandum of Association) to enable people to live together. The vision was to become a healing community and also to work in cooperation with nature and the land. Two thirds of the community is on mains power, the other is on solar. Cars are used for private transport. The property is a wildlife refuge registered with the Dept. of National Parks and Wildlife. Patanga is certified bio-dynamic. Spirituality is a commonality. Community work days are held each week. Vegetable and fruit growing are common. Two small mail order businesses operate out of Patanga. The local TAFE sends people to Patanga for tours.
