Aldinga Arts Ecovillage is a community that emerged from distinct inspirations: the arts, permaculture and environmental sustainability, and the desire to create more cohesive community. It has since become a true community for all and continues to represent our collective vision for an ecovillage, characterised above all for the care we show towards one another and the earth.
Our village in Aldinga is about people and for people. The community works primarily through exchange- it is the participation and inputs of residents that enable the village to flourish. In addition, through arts and cultural activities, community building, developing and maintaining our common land (including a small farm), looking after village service infrastructure, being involved in community governance, and a host of other tasks aimed at supporting each other and nurturing our environment, Aldinga nourishes growth and development.
“We acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of our land. We salute the indigenous philosophy – people belong to the land, in contrast to the European philosophy that land belongs to people – recognising that the traditional philosophy has much of value to teach us as we seek a more sustainable way to live in community.”
