What we do

Nestled on the slopes of Maderas Volcano on the magical Isla de Ometepe, El Zopilote Permaculture Farm & Hostel is a unique eco-village community that blends sustainable living with vibrant social experiences. Spread across lush tropical land, our hostel is built around a fully functional permaculture farm, where the principles of eco-conscious living, organic farming, and self-sufficiency are central to everything we do.
One of our key highlights is mushroom cultivation, where we grow both edible and medicinal varieties, such as oyster mushrooms and reishi. We also offer mushroom-growing courses, giving guests a hands-on opportunity to learn the fascinating process of cultivating their own fungi, from inoculation to harvest, all while promoting sustainable food production.
Accommodation options range from dorms to private rooms and rustic eco-cabins, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature while enjoying modern comforts. The hostel’s design follows permaculture principles, with winding paths through fruit orchards, vegetable gardens, and tropical flowers. Guests can join our permaculture tours to learn more about sustainable farming and eco-living.
Our famous Pizza Night is a must-attend event, where pizzas are freshly baked in our wood-fired oven using ingredients straight from the farm. The evening is filled with fire shows, live music, and a vibrant, social atmosphere under the stars. It’s a perfect setting to relax, meet fellow travelers, and experience the energy of our eco-community.
El Zopilote offers a true eco-village lifestyle, where visitors and long-term volunteers come together to create a community that thrives on sustainability, collaboration, and respect for nature. Whether you’re looking for adventure, education, or relaxation, our hostel offers a unique blend of cultural exchange and eco-conscious living, making it a one-of-a-kind destination on Ometepe.
