What we do

We are a group of Mexican friends living in the jungle of Yucatán, we have been working since 2015 on a piece of land inside the Mayan jungle. We have built and developed an Agroecology, Arts, and Crafts Community Center in which we are looking forward to exchanging all types of knowledge and practices about permaculture, beekeeping, birdwatching, waste management, eco-building, agroforestry, and arts, through workshops.
Based on permaculture design principles, we are working on the improvement of the watering system and the optimal use of water, in the regeneration and improvement of soil for our vegetable gardens and crops, and in the conservation of species with cultural and ecological importance.
With the guidance of our Mayan friends from Sotuta in the use of traditional technics and 85% of local natural material, we built the initial infrastructure which enables us to inhabit the place soon for receiving volunteers, collaborators, specialists, and visitors from nearby local communities.
Practicing agroecological techniques we have established several zones for self-supply vegetable gardens and fruit forests 100% organic and agrochemical free. We continually work on soil fertility, creating organic fertilizers through the production of compost, worm compost, and biofertilizers. We put into practice the Zero Waste Management philosophy.
We organized workshops for the kids, teenagers, and women of Sotuta town about environmental education, dancing, slackline, arts, weave & embroidery. We have received around 400 volunteers from different countries.
We want to show that it is possible to satisfy our needs without overusing resources, in order to achieve a high level of self-sufficiency, within a collaborative work and resilient adaptation.
We have a volunteer program=COLLABORATIVE STAYS (min. 1 or 2 months, since you will have to fulfill specific functions with a high level of responsibility), we receive VISITS and we offer AGROECOLOGY IMMERSIONS (2 weeks practices).

How to join

We receive VISITORS all year. We offer guided tours, we like to receive groups of people interested in knowing our project. The visit includes a tour in the ecovillage, lunch, food and some sensory experience or workshop depending on the interests of the group.
We offer AGROECOLOGY IMMERSION, that are 2-week practices on different areas, we are currently working and different themes depending on the season of the year. Write to us to receive the complete information!
We also have a permanent volunteer program = COLLABORATIVE STAYS. It is important that you have availability of time, 1 or 2 months minimum, since you will have to fulfill specific functions with a high level of responsibility. We exchange food and accommodation for your work :)
The positions of the Collaborative Stays are:
* Kitchen – 5 hours per day, from Monday to Friday.
* Driving and Waste Management – 3 hours per day, from Monday to Saturdays (the schedule depends on the daily needs).
* Host for residents and visitors – 4 hours per day, from Monday to Saturday.
We are interested in receiving people with initiative and willingness to perform physical work and collaborate in a group. It is very important to maintain respect for all people and the environment, as well as help with the daily work.
We are also open to receive NEW MEMBERS. For this, it is necessary that you come first to an Agroecology Immersion, then stay in a Collaborative Stay so we can get to know each other and see how we feel working and living all together. It is important that you stay a long time before being a member cause living in the jungle is a big challenge.
Zero Waste
In this community we seek the recycling, reuse and non-generation of solid waste. For this reason we ask you to avoid bringing objects that they easily become junk.
Co-creating alternatives with respect, love and conscience at the service of life …

Social Media Intern for GEN International Hours: Up to 20/month, flexible around your schedule and availability Location: Remote, work with Eva Goldfarb Focus: Instagram + LinkedIn (TikTok if you’re into it!) Hi! I’m Eva, and I run social media for GEN International — the global network connecting ecovillages, intentional communities, and regenerative culture-builders across every continent. I’m looking for a co-conspirator to help me tell the stories of the people quietly building the future: off-grid villages in the Philippines, permaculture farms in Senegal, urban cohousing projects in Berlin, elders passing down land wisdom in the Andes. It’s a wildly rich, wildly underrepresented world, and I want more people to fall in love with it the way I have. What you’ll actually do: Dream up and create content for Instagram and LinkedIn (reels, carousels, stories, captions that don’t sound like a corporate newsletter) Dig into our global network and turn your findings into stories people want to share Pitch your own ideas. If there’s a series, a theme, a format, or a corner of the network that lights you up, that’s what I want you to focus on. What we’re looking for: A natural storyteller, someone who can spot the human thread in a project update or a photo from a faraway village Genuinely curious about ecovillages, sustainability, intentional community, regenerative living Self-motivated and communicative; this is a flexible, trust-based role Why this role: This isn’t a “post 3x a week and don’t ask questions” internship. You’ll have real creative freedom to work on what excites you, learn how a global grassroots network tells its story, and build a portfolio full of meaningful, purpose-driven content. Plus you’ll be talking to people living some of the most interesting, intentional lives on the planet. If storytelling for a better world sounds like your kind of fun, let’s talk.

Nature Connected Community Design

During this week we will explore what it means to create and to be community. We will use permaculture principles, permaculture design and practices from indigenous cultures worldwide as our main toolbox. At the same time we will be experiencing community life first-hand in the new eco-community of Haslachhof, which will be our venue, our village and our social landscape to design for and with. We will also be sharing practices of cultural repair as they have been gathered over time by earth-based people worldwide and spread by the 8 shields community. On top of this connecting with self and others we will also connect to the land and its creatures – we are blessed to have forests and a creek nearby. We will practice nature connected community design by working on design exercises relating to the Haslachhof community. This course is for everyone interested in community design and suits people who have already done a full 72 hours permaculture design course and want to deepen their social permaculture skills as well as for people without any previous permaculture or nature connection experience who want to learn about community design and deep nature connection. Come and… Live a week in an evolving community! Learn about community building! Practice permaculture principles and social permaculture design! Explore techniques for cultural repair! Deepen your nature connection! Course facilitators Lien de Coster Lien is an inner tracker who guides people on their path towards nature and soul connection. She loves to take people out into the wild on solo retreats and to write poetry. The past years she has mainly been inspired by the Art of Mentoring, social permaculture and northwestern European shamanism. All of this comes together in www.leavesoflien.com. NextGEN Conference 2014

This year NextGEN-Europe conference will be an event full of opportunities to connect, share inspiration and weave a strong network. Young people from all over Europe will come together! If you are a young person who is somehow involved in the ecovillage network – or you want to be so in the future – we warmly invite you to bring your experience, dreams and being into our conference! Young people who already live in ecovillages/sustainable communities, or those who are involved in sustainable or social projects are especially called. We want to hear your opinion and build connection between us – Europe’s next generation. We will – as the youth organisation of GEN (Global Ecovillage Network) – take almost fully part in the GEN conference, taking place from 9th till 13th of July. For more details about it check: http://gen-europe.org/activities/gen-conference/gen-conference-2014/index.htm NextGEN conference starts 4 days before the GEN conference. In this time we will focus on NextGEN only and work on three main topics: 1. Networking – Hear and connect with each other. Share about our projects. See what is happening in Europe. Build friendships with like-minded people. 2. Get inspiration – Different workshops and speakers will share with us their insights and ideas, giving a way to continue our path of learning and finding our own truth. We will give you a taste of different tools that help us create sustainable communities. 3. Strengthen NextGEN – We will continue discovering and building the potential within the NextGEN Europe movement, look at future activities and start new projects.
