Agatha Amani House (AAH) is a safe home for victims of sexual and domestic violence and abuse in Kenya. Through practicing regenerative agriculture and permaculture on-site, the women, children, staff, interns and community experience restoration and healing. It is a hub for healing, creation and sustainability. We steward the souls as we steward the land! We aim to expand our positive climate and biodiversity impact. We have also integrated climate action in our strategic plan and in all of our operations.
The program goes beyond simply providing shelter. Residents learn permaculture, a holistic approach to land management that integrates people and the environment for mutual benefit. This “toolbox” equips them with skills like water management, natural building, and waste management. We not only grow food but also become stewards of the land, practicing and teaching permaculture to others in the community for long-term impact. By empowering residents with these skills, the program prepares them to reintegrate successfully and become ambassadors of sustainable agriculture. On regeneration, our goals include; mutually growing in our knowledge and best practices that heal creation and Increase our climate impact and radiate these practices in our shelter and outward in Kenya.
The residents are empowered through a comprehensive support system. This includes providing safe shelter, hands-on (hard) skills and interpersonal (soft) skills, seed funding to start small businesses, and access to business advisors. The project also helps women connect with markets and develop essential skills like initiative and innovation. AAH recognizes that collaboration and economic empowerment leads to greater influence and better decision-making for women.
