Working closely with the elements (earth, water, air, fire) through meditation, knowledge sharing and practical hands-on workshops, we will reset internally and realign ourselves with the external cycles that shape our experience of existence. Each day we will discuss the philosophy and science behind the practical ecological skills that we will learn, as well as anchor this knowledge in gratitude and ritual. * The retreat intentionally coincides with the dates of our partner – the Global Ecovillage Network’s (GEN) Communities for Future Summit. We will participate daily in lectures from leaders, change-makers, and indigenous elders from around the world who have come together with GEN to inspire an “authentic response to the Climate Emergency, a response that is not driven by urgency, fear, panic, and hurry, but comes from a deep sense of connectedness, love and responsibility.”

Gaia Ashram in the North-East of Thailand is organizing a two weeks Permaculture Design Certification (PDC) course. Gaia Ashram is a community, sustainable living learning center & a farm founded in 2013 with a vision to create a living & learning space that deepens our connection with nature and learn to work with nature. In this two weeks PDC there will be a lot of opportunity for us to connect on a deeper level with nature. What is Permaculture? Permaculture is a design system that reconciles human communities with the ecological imperatives of a living planet. Permaculture is a way of organizing knowledge, a connecting systems that integrates science, art, politics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and the diverse experiences and resources available in any community. Gaia Ashram Permaculture Design Course This Permaculture Design Course will be held in the spirit of Gaia Ashram where community living is the foundation of the learning. Like every program held at Gaia Ashram, we will build a sense of community among all the course participants and the people who live at Gaia Ashram. There will be space for skillshare, deep sharing and well being check – ins. Course participants are welcome to join the daily meditation & yoga/dance. Apart from deepening our connection with each other we will also take time to connect to wider community of all beings and to attune ourselves to the land. By mimicking nature to heal broken systems (both ecological and social) permaculture provides a variety of approaches for positive change. In this introductory weekend, Graham Calder of P3 Permaculture will walk participants through the basics of permaculture philosophy and design. ​ This introductory weekend is designed to equip participants with the confidence and ability to identify and overcome the design problems that surround us. The first day of the course will focus on the history, ethics, and principles of permaculture, as well as provide an introduction to its design methods. We will then use permaculture to explore solutions to the challenges we face in our homes and communities. Examples of permaculture projects from around the world will provide useful case studies. On day two we will put theory into practice: together we will go through the steps of implementing a permaculture design, from observation to the generation of appropriate design strategies. The Deanery Project is a rural learning centre and demonstration site that provides hands-on learning and skill sharing opportunities designed to strengthen community and protect the environment. Through learning about such topics as forest management, alternative energy, natural building, food sovereignty, healthy living, as well as the arts, we can improve the health of our land, waters, natural resources and communities for sustainable social and economic gain.
