Pacha Mama Alliance Kenya Community Description
Micah Opondo is the founder and coordinator of Pacha Mama Alliance Kenya, a grassroots community-based organization (CBO) established in 2017 in Oyugis, Homa Bay County, Kenya.
Our journey began with a deep recognition that human activities are the primary drivers of ecological degradation. Motivated by the urgent need for collective action, we started by hosting Awakening the Dreamer Symposiums and tree-planting initiatives. What began with 1,500 trees in local schools has grown into a movement: over 150,000 trees planted across schools, public lands, and churches; more than 40 tree and fruit seed nurseries established for 42 groups; and transformative training reaching over 700 participants—primarily youth and families.
We stand for environmental stewardship, harmony, and sustainable development. Guided by values of interconnection, cooperation, and respect for Mother Earth (Pacha Mama), we promote ecological literacy, regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and community resilience. We believe in skillful alliances—partnering with schools, NEMA, youth groups, and international networks like ENO School Associates, where impact matters more than credit. At our core, we create a harmonious balance between human activity and nature through education, conservation, and community-driven action.
We envision a thriving, greener Homa Bay and Kenya where future generations inherit healthy lands, clean air, and empowered communities. We aspire to expand reforestation, climate education, sustainable livelihoods, and youth leadership so that every person becomes a “game changer” for our planet. Together, we are healing the Earth, one tree, one workshop, and one empowered voice at a time—building a just, peaceful and sustainable world rooted in Indigenous-inspired wisdom and local action.
