I bring 25+ years leading strategic communications and organizational change across higher education and nonprofits, currently as Deputy CCO at a university. My work has always centered on convening the right voices, building shared understanding, and creating conditions where people and systems can thrive — clearing obstacles, stewarding projects from vision to implementation, and aligning diverse perspectives toward coherent action. I’m now turning that same skill set toward the mountains I come from. I live on land that has been in my extended family for generations in Watauga County, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge — a place where I now grow as much of my own food as I can, in a culture that thrived here long before modern roads made these mountains easy to reach. That culture is being eroded fast by rapid in-migration, and I’m beginning to explore a gap I don’t see anyone else addressing: a real integration point where newcomers can come to understand and embrace this place rather than simply occupy it, built as a regenerative, sustaining Appalachian revival community that blends modern tools with old mountain ways. I’m new to the ecovillage and intentional community world and here to learn. My particular interest is governance: how small communities make real decisions together through structures flexible enough to hold both consistency and the specific needs of a place and its people. Whether that looks like founding something here or working alongside people already doing this elsewhere, I’m ready to bring my gifts into this work.
