Mr. John Macharia is the National Coordinator of SCOPE Kenya, with over 15 years of experience in permaculture design and agroecology. He leads the organization’s efforts to promote sustainable farming practices through climate-resilient permaculture, agroecology, and sustainable land management. Under his leadership, SCOPE Kenya empowers schools and communities with practical skills in food production, environmental conservation, water management, and sustainable livelihoods, improving food security, nutrition, and climate resilience while advancing sustainable school meal programs.
SCOPE Kenya ensures long-term sustainability by establishing a Community Learning and Sharing Site that will serve as a center for practical training, innovation, and knowledge exchange in permaculture, agroecology, and climate-resilient agriculture. The center empowers learners, teachers, parents, youth, and community members with hands-on skills in sustainable food production, environmental conservation, water management, and green entrepreneurship. It provides agroecological products, quality planting materials, and tree seedlings to the schools and communities that SCOPE Kenya works with, strengthening food security and sustainable livelihoods.
The Community Learning and Sharing Site creates a platform for peer learning, demonstration, exchange visits, and mentorship, enabling successful practices to be replicated across more schools and communities. The site nurtures a network of young permaculture champions who will promote environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable farming practices within their schools and communities.
By creating a community-owned learning hub and strengthening local leadership and skills, SCOPE Kenya will empower communities to sustain and expand the project’s benefits beyond the grant period, ensuring lasting improvements in food security, education, environmental conservation, and climate resilience.
