GEN & FIC Platform Partnership

If you’re a part of the intentional community or ecovillage movement, you may have notices ic.org and ecovillage.org feel alittle more connected. It’s true! GEN and FIC have been working together to re-imagine our websites collaboratively and make it easier for communites to be found. This page walks you through what that partnership looks like.

FIC Terms & Policies

Who's Involved

The Foundation for Intentional Community (FIC) operates ic.org, a directory and resource hub for intentional communities. The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) operates ecovillage.org, a directory and network for ecovillages worldwide. FIC and GEN are separate organizations — each runs its own platform, sets its own policies, and is independently responsible for its own members’ data.

What the Partnership Does

FIC and GEN have built a technical connection between ic.org and ecovillage.org so that a community can choose to appear in both directories without creating and maintaining two separate listings. We call this a “Dual Listing.”

Dual Listing is entirely optional. A member’s profile stays on their Home Platform, or  the site they originally signed up on, whether or not they choose to share it further.

What "Home Platform" means

Whichever platform you registered on is your “Home Platform,” and that organization is responsible for your data as its controller:

  • Sign up on ic.org → FIC is your Home Platform and is responsible for your data.
  • Sign up on ecovillage.org → GEN is your Home Platform and is responsible for your data.

If you choose to share your profile with the Partner Platform, that organization becomes independently responsible for how it displays and handles the shared copy — but your Home Platform remains your primary point of contact for any privacy questions or requests.

How Withdrawing Consent Works

If you turn off Dual Listing sharing:

  • Your shared data is automatically removed from the Partner Platform’s public display.
  • Nothing needs to be requested manually — the removal happens through the technical connection between the two platforms.
  • If you turn sharing back on later, your previously shared content is restored to the Partner Platform.

Your profile on your Home Platform is never affected by this toggle, it only controls what appears on the other organization’s site.

Who to Contact

For any question about your data, start with your Home Platform – the organization you originally signed up with:

If your question involves data that also appears on the Partner Platform through a Dual Listing, your Home Platform will coordinate with the Partner Platform on your behalf.
