Vila Qatuan is evolving into a residential regenerative research station and constitutional Habitat in Cavalcante, Goiás.
Originally conceived as an ecovillage through Qatuan’s environmental design work, it is becoming the field foundation for a wider programme where regenerative systems, ecological infrastructure, Earth observation, citizen science and institutional learning meet lived reality.
Vila Qatuan will also be our home. Residents, researchers, visitors, technologies and consequences belong within the same field of responsibility. Development is guided by principles emerging through QAIB and Aeva: reality before assumption, relationship before control, correction through evidence, and human accountability to living systems.
The Habitat will support field research, ecological restoration, water and renewable-energy systems, Open Science, education, ecological events and carefully integrated tourism. Visitors should encounter a living place where participation, observation and practical learning form part of the experience—not a resort decorated with sustainability.
As the home of NASA Space Apps Cavalcante, Vila Qatuan may support year-round opportunities for young people, researchers, mentors and local communities to engage with regional challenges and emerging ideas. The annual event will be a point of convergence within a continuing programme whose strongest work may progress into field testing and longer-term development.
This region is already inhabited by people with their own knowledge, priorities and authority—including Kalunga individuals and communities. Our work must neither romanticise nor instrumentalise them. It must provide equitable opportunities to participate, refuse, shape or lead, while respecting autonomy and keeping opportunities connected to those who live here.
Vila Qatuan is a Habitat in formation where ecological, technological, human and institutional relationships can be lived, examined and corrected together.
