As a Friend of GEN, you will be supporting an independent, pioneering and radical Global Ecovillage Network. Together we can continue to implement sustainable solutions and help catalyze the power of community for a regenerative future.
By becoming a Friend of GEN you will receive exclusive benefits to bring you closer to GEN’s work on the ground and connect with communities worldwide. You will contribute to the regenerative paradigm and support communities who are implementing change now.
The Global Ecovillage Network supports over 10,000 communities worldwide to regenerate the environment and build a more equitable society. From natural carbon sequestration to transformational water retention landscapes, pioneering clean energy technologies to earthen buildings, communities today are creating local solutions to global problems.
Now more than ever, we need to connect in community and stand together in solidarity for beautiful alternatives that are conducive to life. Join us!
We invite you to become a Friend of GEN and support what is close to your heart. Connect to communities locally and globally who are building alternatives now, together forming resilient communities that champion social and environmental justice.
With your support, our network of communities will grow and shine bright to expose a new way of being. As a Friend, you will receive inclusive communications highlighting exciting opportunities for personal growth within GEN, become connected to other ecovillagers in your region and globally, receive regular invitations to our Sustainable Lives webinar series, and more!
GEN catalyzes the power of community for a regenerative future. Get involved!
Through the construction of water retention landscapes, communities within GEN have transformed desertified regions back to thriving, biodiverse, ecosystems providing renewed habitats for flora and fauna in diverse bioregions across the globe.
Tamera Healing Biotope, Portugal is located in Alentejo, the country’s driest region. By implementing water retention based on permaculture design principles and ecological engineering techniques, Tamera has seemingly miraculously regenerated its immediate landscape. Community members now support communities worldwide to realise similar sustainable solutions, actively combating the consequences of climate change and supporting life to flourish.
Monoculture, cash-cropping and chemical fertilizer reliance are destroying the Earth. At the current rate of soil degradation we are only have 60 harvests left. We need low-tech, low-cost, and easily replicable solutions now to combat the crisis within our food systems.
Biochar is a natural fertilizer made from charcoal, organic waste and manure. Not only does this restore topsoil, using biochar helps sequester carbon! Hundreds of communities in GEN, like Zegg, an ecovillage in Germany, are using biochar to create fertile soil combat climate change.
Studies have shown that CO2 emissions in ecovillages are a fraction of the average. Findhorn ecovillage in Scotland has an ecological footprint of 50% of the U.K. average, the lowest footprint recorded for any settlement in the industrial world (Nissen D., 2014/ Tinsley, Gorge, 2006). While reducing their consumption, people living in ecovillages report a high quality of life (Mattos, 2015).
