YIRABAH Gambia e.V. was founded in 2007 with the vision of supporting sustainable development in rural Gambia. The organization emerged from a deep commitment to improving living conditions and fostering self-sufficiency within local communities. Inspired by close partnerships with Gambian villages, YIRABAH focuses on holistic development projects in areas such as education, health, and agriculture.
One of the organization’s cornerstone initiatives is the **Bambako Eco Farm**, a model for sustainable farming and community empowerment. Located in the heart of Gambia, the farm promotes organic agriculture, teaching local farmers eco-friendly techniques that enhance soil fertility and increase yields without harming the environment.
The farm also serves as a community hub, providing training in sustainable practices and offering workshops on topics such as permaculture and biodynamic agriculture. Through these efforts, Bambako Eco Farm not only improves food security but also creates economic opportunities for the surrounding villages.
YIRABAH’s work at Bambako is driven by a strong belief in the power of grassroots action. By combining traditional knowledge with innovative methods, the organization aims to build a resilient future for Gambian communities while protecting the environment.
Volunteering or joining the team at Bambako Eco Farm offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to sustainable development in Gambia.
Here’s what you can do to help:
Agricultural Work: Assist in planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. Volunteers help implement organic farming techniques such as composting, mulching, and crop rotation to maintain soil health.
Animal Care: Support the care of farm animals by feeding, cleaning enclosures, and helping with sustainable livestock management.
Construction and Maintenance: Participate in building and maintaining farm infrastructure, such as irrigation systems, fencing, and eco-friendly housing.
Training and Workshops: Help organize or deliver workshops on sustainable farming, permaculture, or renewable energy. Share your skills to empower local farmers.
Community Engagement: Collaborate with local villagers, assist in educational programs, or help distribute farm produce. Building strong relationships is key to the farm’s mission.
