What we do

Homestead Heirloom Gardens and Ecovillage is an established, off-grid, self-reliant community of individuals who have come together, and dedicated their lives to, simple communal* living, the preservation of rare, medicinal and indigenous cultivars, and the reskilling of the lost and forgotten practices of traditional homestead living.
We are seeking those of like mind an vision, to live simply and in community, to leave the smallest carbon footprint as possible, and to not only save, but to restore the diversity and the integrity of our heritage foods and our forgotten basic life skills* and practices.
Homestead Heirloom Gardens now has work trade residency positions available. Heavily rooted in deep ecology* and ecocentric* concepts and philosophies, we are seeking those with a background* or profound interest in syntropic permaculture, agroforestry food production, heirloom subsistence farming* and simple communal living.
Furnished apartments, cabins and rv/skoolie sites, all vegetarian* meals, all utilities, all essential items, all toiletries, laundry, community closet, community library, community car and rideshares are all provided. Work trade only. No costs, fees or contracts ever required. Long term/permanent residency possible. Plant based, holistic, alcohol and tobacco free communal living!
Our reskilling, vocational and practical skills training include: Wood working and carpentry, plumbing, wells, cisterns, water catchment, grey water and irrigation systems, electrical systems, off-grid and micro-grid solar systems, passive solar water heaters, full service auto mechanics (from general maintenance to major engine overhaul), small engine repair, welding, metal fabrication and more!

Permaculture Design Course in Tinos, Greece

Two knowledgeable teachers and lifelong farmers from England, Dr. Rod Everett and his colleague Mill Millichap who are teaching permaculture since 1990 in various parts of the world, are coming to Greece and spreading the permaculture philosophy and way of life for the last 6 years This PDC is fully certified by the Permaculture Association (Britain). The Permaculture Design Certificate is a 80 hour theoretical course based on Bill Mollison’s Designers Manual, teaching how we can use today’s tools and technology to create a more sustainable world. Permaculture is not only about growing vegetables and animals, it is a whole sustainable lifestyle. Permaculture ethics are Earth Care, People Care and Return of Surplus and this is taught by showing students to focus on local resources and their local community, and to have well thought out design practices to create abundance sustainably. At the Tinos Ecolodge you will have the opportunity to see stone built houses with local materials, an off-grid system for energy production for the whole lodge which is powered by solar panels, a collection of rain water system, a reedbed filtration sewage system, indoor compost toilets with the Aquatron separation system, outdoor compost toilets, outdoor kitchen and shower filtration systems and a lot more to be built and learned during the seminar. Tinos Ecolodge is situated in a beautiful island setting with great sea views and sunrise from the sea, traditional terraced landscape, with a nearby stream and lots of old oak trees to camp under. There is also limited space in the 3 lodges which can host up to 12 people. There will be a communal outdoor kitchen were we will eat all together 3 meals per day, and outdoor showers and compost toilets for those who camp. Max number of participants is 20 people.
