The Abaya and Chamo watershed areas around Bare, Sikela and Edget Ber Kebele is highly affected by degradation of the natural environment , climate change, loss of bio-diversity, and loss of top soil due to erosion which ends with siltation and pollution problems in the Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo. The meager management of natural resources is the major concern in ensuring sustainable development. The project area is highly susceptible to and unable to cope with, adverse effects of climate change including climate variability and extremes (flooding) moreover the coping capacity of the society is very poor since the majorities were poor and marginalized group. The project will also focus on anthropogenic and other causes of environmental degradation and livelihoods problems of the community. This participatory project is not only to protect the local environment by area closure, soil and water conservation structure but it also focused on improving the livelihoods of targeted vulnerable community groups by applying integrated development intervention like organizing and incapacitating fuel saving stove producing youth and women groups and village poultry farming at the household level thereby reducing anthropogenic pressure of the population on the remaining natural forest in Nech-Sar National Park.
