What we do

Nea Guinea is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that was initiated in 2009 with the main objective of re-appropriating our everyday needs in terms of food, health, energy, shelter, and clothing. Since then, the organisation has been operating a number of projects developing different alternative practices and techniques and has been promoting these as tools for increasing self-sufficiency and resilience of people and communities in Greece. The initiative’s projects aim to inform, educate, encourage, and support people in redefining their basic everyday practices and getting actively involved in different production processes.
Nea Guinea’s activities are grouped under 5 basic streams:
1. Education
2. Goods and services
3. Research and experimentation
4. Raising awareness
5. Community building and networking
We have several flagship projects such as our urban educational center in Nea Makri, Athens, which consists of five further main sub-projects:
1. Educational vegetable garden project
2. Educational herb garden project
3. Forest garden project
4. Renewable energy project
5. Natural building project
We continuously strive towards strengthening our relationships with other rural collectives in Greece and hope that our knowledge can inspire other projects to implement sustainable farming and building techniques, amongst other things. In addition to all of the above and under the listed streams, we also hold workshops for children, as well as intensive seminars, and we place great focus on how to foster greater community interactions.

La Dimensión Social del Diseño Regenerativo

Are you looking to consciously re-invent cooperative and harmonious ways of living and working together? If so, how do we design solutions for group development, leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making, creativity, social justice and communication? Join Gaia Education’s Social Design for Sustainability course and learn practical effective ways to create the change we all seek. Our distinct programme is your chance to learn about the different ways to participate in this (r)evolutionary shift in paradigms. Our aim is to give you a better understanding of the true meaning of social equity and participatory action, and to enable participants to apply transformative tools that align us with more resilient social systems. Our relationship with others is too dear to let it default to old domineering paradigms. Many of us feel that our current social system is no longer sustainable and that more compassionate and just ways of organising are possible, but what are the alternatives? It is a commonly held belief that there are things individuals can do to change the system or improve their social condition but within the context of a complex global community, the effectiveness of isolated individual action is limited. We all co-create the system in which we live so once we join with others and work for a shared vision to improve the situation in our communities we participate in a powerful force for positive change If you have been part of a group, you already know that one of the most common reasons for failure of group projects is conflict. Conflict is a structural issue in the formation of groups so propagating successful group projects will necessarily entail a healing process in which we step out of the cycles of pain and violence that have run through human history and take responsibility for initiating new patterns. Rediscovering the beauty, compassionate nature and innate power of human beings
