We are a tiny community of around 10 people located in the rural NE New Territories of Hong Kong. Founded in 2013, the community emerged as a result of a conservation movement in which close to 100 people pooled in their money and wisdom, trying to save farmland and natural landscape in the are from being bulldozed and developed. Seeing the need for land-based sustainability education for the public in Hong Kong and coming together as an intentional community to respond to the many eco-social challenges that humanity is facing, we have taken our time to grow our core group of members – from just a couple of people from the start to now up to 10 lived-in members in the neighbourhood. As an eco-community, we find ourselves on the land of the indigenous Hakka people in Hong Kong’s New Territories who have settled here for more than 400 years. We are deeply inflected by the traditional wisdom and knowledge of the Hakka and we hope that through our work this land and all the beings in it can survive and thrive.
We have a small garden where we grow our own vegetables. We have been running an oral history project in the community. Some of our members are keen on natural building techniques and we are hoping to explore this more. Other than that we also provide workshops and activities on all aspects of ecovillage education.
Unfortunately we are currently not able to provide long-term accommodation for potential members. Any core member will have to reside in Hong Kong and take part in the day-to-day activities of the community on a regular basis.
