About the Communities

What we do

The Santa Barbara Eco-Village vision is to create a place to gather and care for the Earth, ourselves and each other. A place to pull our resources and talents to live a healthier and more fulfilling life that can be sustained for generation as we help people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Santa Barbara Eco-Village mission is to support and promote sustainable lifestyles. The project focuses on community living, land restauration, health and education. Resources will be directed towards implementing sustainability models that will allow people to live healthier and more fulfilling lives. We plan to create a blue print model that can be replicated throughout the world and adapted by diverse communities according to their geographical, cultural and economic conditions.
Our Vision Combines:
A permaculture farm and forest and an eco-village that will include alternative energy generation and off-grid living, an artisan craft center, a retirement community, and a safe refuge for children and adolescents.
A multidimensional healing and retreat center offering transformational retreats and festivals year-round for personal growth and individual healing intensives.
A community outreach center dedicate to supporting ongoing community projects and local causes linking eco-friendly organizations and non-profit organizations with the city of Santa Barbara. This program will include a food-bank for the production and delivery of food and resources for homeless people and unemployed families.
A program designed to educate and enrich the community of Santa Barbara and nearby cities with emphasis on childhood education.
A visionary artist colony that encourages inspirational art, film, theater, dance, music, poetry, literature, culinary arts, and develops new approaches to sublime and transformative creative expression.
An esoteric wisdom school with university-level courses in such fields as consciousness studies; meditation practice; quantum physics and its practical implications; transformative dream work; comparative metaphysics; shamanic and energetic healing; yogic sciences; exopolitical studies; next-generation therapies that go beyond transpersonal psychology, psychoanalysis, systems theories, and other current approaches. Other core subjects include nonviolent communication, leadership training, and community building.
An ashram for the modern western world that provides the space for a contemplative and simple lifestyle and the achievement of our highest potential. A place to visit or to permanently live a life of simplicity, inner peace, and joy with like-minded beings, in harmonious union with our Self and the Earth.
Other initiatives include a research center, an open source programs for project development and dissemination of valuable information, an Eco-Village development and integration program.

Communities Conference in VA

If you live or want to live according to the values of cooperation, sustainability, and equality this conference is for you. You’ll get something out of this event whether you’re brand new to communities and cooperatives, or have been living and working in them for decades. The conference focuses on Intentional Communities, including models such as Ecovillages, Cohousing, and Housing Cooperatives, and the larger cooperative movement, including all kinds of cooperative and collective organizations. From September 4th – 7th, 2015, network and learn about communities of all kinds — co-housing, co-ops, communes and ecovillages — at one of the best-known intentional communities in North America. At the conference, you can attend workshops topics such as group-decision making, diversity in community, intentional relationships and sustainable living. Camp in a beautiful forest alongside fellow participants and be a part of a temporary, once-in-a-lifetime intentional community. Artosilla, 1999

II Encuentro de Ecoaldeas En el II Encuentro Estatal de Ecoaldeas, celebrado en Artosilla en agosto de 1999, se avanzó considerablemente en la creación de una red de ecoaldeas, al permitir que nos conociéramos unos cuantos colectivos que, en diferentes lugares de la geografía española, estamos trabajando en esta línea. Sin embargo, por ser todavía pocos y por hallarnos todavía en una fase muy inicial, en la última asamblea celebrada en dicho Encuentro se decidió mantener de momento una estructura de coordinación mínima —que recaía por otra parte en la Carrucha Cultural— y esperar que el movimiento de ecoaldeas se fuera consolidando en todo el territorio español antes de crear una verdadera red. También se decidió, que dado que la palabra “ecoaldea” es de uso muy reciente, y algunos colectivos ya llevan trabajando en líneas similares desde hace años, se podría ampliar la red a otro tipo de comunidades sostenibles, como colectividades rurales, comunas urbanas y rurales, municipios o pueblos ecológicos, cooperativas de viviendas, comunidades de desarrollo personal, etc., siempre que se hallen predispuestas a avanzar en la consecución de los requisitos mínimos de ecoaldea. No existen ecoaldeas perfectas, ni en España ni en ningún otro país europeo, y por tanto no se trata de que los colectivos que quieran unirse a la red ibérica de ecoaldeas lo sean completamente. Basta con que haya en ellos una intención de avanzar en el desarrollo de comunidades sostenibles.
