SCOPE Zimbabwe - Ecovillage@Chitubu

Ecovillage @Chitubu is an offshoot project of the Schools and Colleges Permaculture (SCOPE) Zimbabwe a registered welfare organisation working with young people throughout the country on practical environmental education Programme and sustainable lifestyles. SCOPE Zimbabwe works closely with the Government of Zimbabwe, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MOPSE) and the Ministry of Environment Water and Climate, Environmental Management Agency. It was launched in 1994. Its origins are in assisting schools to redesign and rationalize land use for sustainable resource use and to protect children and youth from environmental hazards in their living and learning spaces. More so, to facilitate that schools become demonstration centres for communities, in contributing towards building a citizenry that is consciously working towards long term social, economic and environmental stability. Integral to SCOPE is the use of a holistic, transformative and participatory process used to implement permaculture[1]. This process brings together the different school stakeholders to develop a whole school map and a community resilience plan. SCOPE has over two decades of the practical application of ecological principles with extensive experience growing into four established contexts in Malawi, Zambia, Uganda and Kenya.
