What we do

StushBush was created by Anthony Carlos, who used to be a fashion designer in New York and wanted to return to his homeland in Guyana. Stush is a local term for a person who is “different from the regular” and being in nature is referred to as “going to the bush”. StushBush is an ecovillage in the process of being built that welcomes all offbeat artisans who want to live closer to the earth and make sustainable artisan crafts.
The land already has many fruit trees — banana, mango, orange, saffodilla, coconut, guava, guayara, white tea — and a plantation of vegetables. There are birds, monkeys, and baboons, iguanas, and salipenters aplenty.
StushBush has 3 main missions:

  • Use art and education to motivate fellow locals to live eco-friendly lives using hands-on, experiential education through workshops and events (i.e. fashion shows, music performances, farm tours)
  • Support people’s spiritual journey and healing through personal development through healings, personal development, and retreats.
  • Self-produce the basics of a good life — food, clothing, and shelter by co-owning land and homesteading with the local community

Future Facilities: greenhouse, fashion district (recycled and natural eco-clothing made on-site), beer garden, garden + fruit tree plantation, food market, A-frame tiny home campground, kitchen +restaurant with BBQ grill, recycling facility, swimming pond, full homes and residences.
Current stage: *** Looking for members, work exchangers, laborers, and artisans. *** Ready to open for camping October 24th, 2021.
Current facilities: A-frame glamping sites, open land to camp on, main villa, garden + fruit trees.
StushBush will use co-ownership models for owning residences on the property. You can apply to be a resident, and you have the chance to rent land, farm, and bring business to the village.
StushBush is receiving ecovillage consulting from Terrenity (terrenity.org) to help support the design and development process of building an ecovillage.

Zambia - Ecovillage Development Training

The Ecovillage Development Programme inspires communities not only to adapt to Climate Change but also to improve their quality of life and lift them towards resilience. GEN inspires local authorities and governments to include ecovillage development programmes in their strategies for the implementation of SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. We have learned that, while there is no one way of being an ecovillage, there are 3 core practises shared by all: Being rooted in local participatory processes Integrating social, cultural, economic and ecological dimensions in whole systems approach to sustainability Actively restoring and regenerating their social and natural environments Together, we will Explore the ecovillage concept and the work and contributions of different types of ecovillages across the world Understand ecovillage development as a tool for climate change adaptation and reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals Become familiar with a framework for holistic sustainability grounded in decades of hands-on experience and design of resilient communities worldwide Practice participatory whole-systems design, using the Ecovillage Playing Cards Explore assets, needs and potential next steps of a group, project or community in each dimension of sustainability Select specific learning areas (demand driven training) e.g. community building skills, seed multiplication, social entrepreneurship, water catchment systems, etc. to dive into You can choose to join us only for the first week or for the whole training. Facilitation Team: Kosha Joubert, Mugove Walter Nyika, Linda Kabaira, … and more! Asamblea, 2000
