About me

Introducing the eurotopia Directory 2014: Communities and Ecovillages in Europe
The 2014 eurotopia European Communities Directory is the fifth edition of the popular book and it’s available in English and in German. It’s been published in the German ecovillage of Sieben Linden by people who live in communities themselves. Since 1996 the eurotopia team reaches out to thousands of alleged communities in Europe to collect the actual existing ones in this book. Only projects responding to this call for submissions are included. They range from respected multi-generational co-housing projects to colourful idealists trying to get by without much structure. Some have a religious focus, some share their finances.
It might just hit the nail to call living in community a great adventure: after all, it has challenges, emotions, great moments as well as some downsides. It is not always easy, but it’s intensive and rewarding – that’s the message in the articles of the new eurotopia book. Apart from these articles about living in community, about scientific acknowledgement of communities, about successful founding of communities and about the worldwide impact of intentional communities (contributed by American community writer Diana Leafe Christian), the new directory contains
-Descriptions of 430 intentional communities, ecovillages, co-housing projects
-Introductions of community networks with more community addresses
-Useful addresses in Europe and beyond.
For sure, eurotopia is the most comprehensive piece about the European community scene – and the international edition is always striving to get even more communities on board, as well as resellers in all European countries. Eurotopia is available as a book only*, but it features an online search at http://www.eurotopia.de/booksearch – the results are page numbers in the eurotopia book.
The directory is available (with reasonable rates for international shipping) at http://www.eurotopia.de, but do check your favourite local bookstore or online dealer for eurotopia.

Social Vegan Permaculture Design Course

During this fully certified 14 day permaculture course (certified by the Permaculture Association Britain and Roots n Permaculture school) we will delve deep into permaculture including how to design food growing systems, design low impact houses and create economies, while also enriching and taking care of nature. This Permaculture Design Course (PDC) is devoted to creatively facing the social demands of our time and it offers practical impetus to dealing with interpersonal challenges both in the private and professional environment. Special emphasis will therefore be put into experiential learning by creating a temporary community for the duration of the course. We apply Dragon Dreaming and social permaculture tools to design the course and grow as a community, making sure everyone’s needs are met, so we can all enjoy living together in a supportive learning environment. This 90 hour experiential workshop runs in two sections in July and in September. Each week is spread over 8 days, with one day off in between. Part 1: 30th June to 7th July (4th July day off) Part 2: 16th to 23rd September (19th September day off) The cost of putting on the course means we need to raise on average €720 per person FOR ALL 14 DAYS (i.e. part 1 and 2, not just part 1). However we invite you to propose how much you would like to contribute (no amount is too small, so please tell us what you can afford). See below for more details on the costings. Teaching will be in English. === WHAT IS VEGAN PERMACULTURE & WHAT TO EXPECT === Permaculture is a design system for creating abundance in all aspects of our lives, which is underpinned by ethics. In this particular case we look at how to achieve this without keeping animals locked into our systems (animals and insects are encouraged to come and benefit from our system, but are equally free to leave). Hence we describe it as Vegan permaculture. Permaculture is a rigorous and systematic set of tools, ecologica
