I am a champion for regenerative human settlements: housing and neighbourhoods that enable more social, economic, and ecological wellbeing. I’ve set up an enterprise called Common Ground to facilitate this ecovillage, intentional community, and community-led housing movement in New Zealand and the region.
I’m doing this work because this is the kind of place I want to live, as do many others, but there are too few options and there is also an affordability factor that is prohibitive for many. As a single mother of two kids, I feel isolated and unsupported in conventional suburbia and I also struggle financially with the cost of housing.
There is also an urgency to develop regeneratively to mitigate the climate and environmental issues in our country and world and I see housing as being a major way to do things differently.
