Join GEN Ambassadors Betsy Morris and Raines Cohen, Cohousing Coaches and community organizers with Cohousing California, with area community seekers and residents of an East Bay Cohousing (EBCOHO) neighborhood, to together prepare a community meal and watch and discuss GEN’s Power of Community Summit videos. In cohousing neighborhoods, every home has its own kitchen. But in the shared Common House, members gather up to several times a week to dine together — but because this is a special time for the whole community to be with each other, there’s not room for guests. At this special (un)Common Meal, we will take over a cohousing Common House kitchen on an “off” night and prepare our own Common Meal together; some members of the community may join us to eat it. The shopping will already be done, but we’ll get to cook and clean and learn together, discovering the joys and challenges of feeding a group of diverse humans with unique needs, and cleaning up afterwards. We’ll take turns, with one group cooking while another watches and discusses a Summit video, take time to eat together, and then the cooks get to watch and discuss another video while the first group cleans up. Advance registration required, so we can shop and prepare. Important note: the listed location is NOT the property address, we send it only when you register, to protect the privacy of community residents.

At this workshop we will be taking a glance to the characteristics of this construction material and on the construction techniques used all over the planet. We deal with many tricks and maybe some additives to enhance its characteristics. We will explain all the steps: How to get it, to rate it, to mix it, to use it and to decorate it. We will be also dealing wit lots of constructive elements and their fabrication with clay: floor, walls, ceilings; seats, ovens and even bathtubs. It is possible to do all of that with clay in a creative way. Of course, we will be touching and experimenting this material at the closest, since we will be doing all the steps in practice: from rating the material to mixing it and applying it. We will be working on pending projects at the valley, may it be a little artistic house, a sculpture, an oven or any other thing. Following the weekend workshop we will offer the possibility of staying the whole week getting deeper into what we learned and doing some different experiences. The week after the valley is open for people to stay and practice clay building

‘Eco Village Design Education’ conducted at Siddharth Village, Odisha, India is a transforming experience. The course is designed with EDE mandala as base, integrating the ‘World view’, ‘Social’, ‘Economic’ and ‘Ecology’ dimensions. ‘World view’ and ‘Social’ dimensions are process oriented. They set a stage for questioning long held perspectives about life, oneself and the world around. This in turn may lead to experiencing changes ‘here and now’. Relaxation and meditation techniques, exercises to manifest desires and so on, facilitate participants to experience the incredible connection between mind and matter/body, mind and energy systems. All this happens in an appropriate and relaxed pace. Conflict transformation in social dimension is learnt in experiential. Participants will have an opportunity to live in an ecovillage of indegenous people and imbibe their wisdom. Permaculture in ecology dimension of the course integrated with above mentioned dimensions is highly practical, equipping one with the knowledge, skill and appropriate attitude. Fun is a part of the course but learning takes place in depth. Set in an ambience of simplistic luxury, the course is a treasure house of the wisdom of EAST. G.John
