The Gaia Ashram Internship is a one month Summer Internship program on Ecovillage Design, Permaculture and Deep Ecology. The internship will be a holistic participatory learning experience & process. Interns will experience being part of the Gaia Ashram Community and we will live together for one month at– Gaia Ashram-. At Gaia Ashram we belief in holistic learning that balances the head, hands & heart. Gaia Ashram encourages participatory learning & values the power of community in holding the learning space. We design the daily & weekly structure of the internship and of our lives here based on these values and principles. It will cover the 4 keys of Ecovillage Design Education (Social, Economical, Ecological and Worldview inspired by Gaia Education). Each week will cover one of the Ecovillage Design Keys and integrated into this we will be introduced to Permaculture Design & Deep Ecology in terms of philosophy, movement and personal experiences. Overall, We will have a maximum of 2-3 hours of theory per day on the session days, to also create lots of space for practical experiential learning. See more details of the key content below. For the hands – on practical learning we will be developing the Gaia Ashram’s farm and restoring nature on the Gaia Ashram land using permaculture strategies & techniques that are appropriate for the Rainy Season & the land and its local context. In March, directly after the Gaia-Initiation Valle de Sensacoines will host the first Ecovillage Laboratory. It is essential to attend a Gaia-Initiation as an introduction to the topic! In this laboratory time we will dedicate ourselves to the use of the medicine wheel as a tool to accompany communitarian and personal processes. This ancient system represents all aspects of BEING – in a circular form. It is well suitable for accompanying and supporting human processes: Conflict resolution in communities Group dynamic in a work team Communitarian project development Creative processes Self-reflection and personal growth The nowadays popular tool to use the medicine wheel for project work is the so-called Dragon Dreaming. In this laboratory time we also invite people who work with Dragon Dreaming, to reflect the variety of possibilities of the use of the medicine wheel. Condition of Participation We invite people with experience in the work with the medicine wheel and also newcomers that are interested in the use of the medicine wheel in their life situation. People who already participated in Gaia Initiations in previous years or other places can directly start with the laboratory time. Others should attend the Gaia-Initation that is happening right before this laboratory time in Valle de Sensaciones. – Or if you have experiences with the medicine wheel in other contexts, document them in the application form and we will have a look if a participation independent of the Gaia-Initiation seems to be reasonable. Khetee proposes to support women across Durdih village to undertake introduced Gharbadi cultivation in Homestead land to produce and consume clean, green, safe, and nutritions vegetables for round the year. In the duration of 1 week starting from the 9th of April, a total of 5 Mandala/Kitchen gardens, Poshan Vatika will be developed in the homestead land of the community. Preparation for developing the Mandala garden will take place with the support of team Khetee, community farmers, women, and youth. 23 September – 4 October (11 days, 72 hours certificate) Led by Dr. Rod Everett and Mill Millichap We are excited to announce the first FULL PERMACULTURE DESIGN COURSE (PDC) that will be hosted in Tinos Eco-lodge with two knowledgeable teachers and lifelong farmers from England, Dr. Rod Everett and his colleague Mill Millichap who are teaching permaculture since 1990 in various parts of the world and are coming to Greece and spreading the permaculture philosophy and way of life for the last 5 years. This PDC is fully certified by the Permaculture Association (Britain). The Permaculture Design Certificate is a 72 hour theoretical course based on Bill Mollison’s Designers Manual, teaching how we can use today’s tools and technology to create a more sustainable world. Permaculture is not only about growing vegetables and animals, it is a whole sustainable lifestyle. Permaculture ethics are Earth Care, People Care and Return of Surplus and this is taught by showing students to focus on local resources and their local community, and to have well thought out design practices to create abundance sustainably. Anyone who wants to bring a big change in his life and way of thinking is welcome to participate, there is no need of previous knowledge of the subject. At the Tinos Ecolodge you will have the opportunity to see stone built houses with local materials, an off-grid system for energy production for the whole lodge which is powered by solar panels, collection of rain water system, reedbed filtration sewage system, indoor compost toilets with the Aquatron separation system, outdoor compost toilets, outdoor kitchen and shower filtration systems and a lot more to be built and learned during the seminar.
