Thank you to all of you who made this campaign a success and a special thank you to our major donors, Tom Stanton and Thaer Sabri, your support enables our work!

Thanks to Big Give’s Earth Raise, every donation you make between April 22nd and April 29th through our campaign page will be doubled. That means your gift goes twice as far in supporting ecovillages worldwide.

But there’s an important detail.

We only receive the matched funds if we fundraise the minimum of £4,000 directly through our profile on the Big Give website.

To support, make a donation to the Global Ecovillage Network during Earth Week!

How the match works

Big Give’s match funding model doubles public donations by unlocking capital from corporate partners and philanthropists. To unlock the full match, GEN needs to raise a minimum of £4,000 directly through our Big Give campaign page during Earth Week. That means every pledge counts, not just for its own value, but for what it unlocks for everyone who gives alongside you.

Last year’s campaign: what your donations made possible

In 2025, GEN participated in the Big Give Earth Week campaign and hit our £8,000 goal. Here’s where that went:

1. Sent GEN representatives to COP30

It is imperative that ecovillage voices have presence on global stages. We sent members of GEN Brazil to attend the COP30 in Colombia to advocate for ecovillage models globally.

Our representatives called on governments to:

  • Recognize ecovillages as strategic climate infrastructure in national climate plans
  • Establish National Ecovillage Agencies to support and scale regenerative communities
  • Reform land laws to protect and facilitate ecovillage development
  • Include ecovillage representatives in national climate policy development
  • Allocate climate finance to support ecovillage networks and expansion

Read more about the visit here.

2. Sponsored Global South members to attend the Ecovillage Gathering

As a global network, it is important to us that all members are able to share their voices and perspectives equally. As part of socially regenerative reparations, we sponsored several members of the Global South to present at the annual European Ecovillage Gathering and participate in the culturally transformative relationships and skills gained from this experience.

3. Invested in co-creating a new map and directory platform

In 2025, we began building a new platform to discover ecovillages and ecovillages resources. This platform will be shared between GEN & FIC, formalizing a collaboration that has long been requested by our networks. This is an ongoing project, but with last year’s fundraisers, we were able to hire a developer to create the shared digital infrastructure.

Where this year’s funds are going

Every contribution empowers communities to live regeneratively and inspire others to do the same. This year, your contributions will support GEN’s 2 major initiatives:

£2,000 – Launch the upgraded ecovillage online map and directory

We’ve built the shared infrastructure between GEN and FIC, and now we will continue the development and design of the new platform.

£3,000 – Support the development of the GEN Ecovillage Research Center

Since 2025, GEN has been establishing a new institute in Ireland known as IERI, or International Ecovillage Research Institute. The institute will further ecovillage research and programs across the globe. Funds will support the administrative costs of this work.

£3,000 – Sustain the efforts of the GEN-International Core Team

GEN’s International team works tirelessly to weave together the 6 chapters of the Global Ecovillage Network, to produce alliances, funded programs, and support for ecovillage initiatives worldwide. As this work is ongoing, GEN is sustained by grants, fundraisers, and individuals like you.

Why donations are vital to GEN’s work

GEN connects 6,000 communities across 114 countries — ecovillages, intentional communities, and grassroots projects redesigning how we live together on this planet. For 31 years, this network has been growing the proof that a regenerative way of life is not a theory. It exists. It works. And it’s expanding.

We are a UK-based non-profit that has worked continuously since 1995 to ensure that ecovillage wisdom and practical solutions spread far beyond their origins.

Our Programs:

Climate Resilience: We help ecovillages regenerate degraded land, transition to renewable energy, and build climate-adaptive food systems. Through programs like the Ecovillage Resilience Project, we spotlight ecovillages as a proven climate resilience strategy and equip ecovillage members to build systems for resilience.

A Thriving Network: We are always expanding and maintaining GEN’s global ecovillage map, so people like you can find and connect with communities that align with your vision, as well as start their own community.

Education & Mentorship: We share ecovillage models and regenerative skills through online courses, consulting, and hands-on learning. By sharing community-oriented education, we train the next generation of change-makers and land stewards.

Amplifying Proven Solutions: We support ecovillages in sharing their blueprints for resilience with the wider world. Our programs spotlight and empower communities that are innovative examples of the possibilities of ecovillages.

Why This Matters to You

Every day, more people are looking for ways to live in harmony with the planet. Perhaps you feel the same pull toward community, sustainability, and resilience. But shifting from an extractive culture to a regenerative one takes commitment, resources, and action.

Ecovillages are living laboratories of the future, pioneering solutions that work in real life. They regenerate landscapes, build circular economies, and prove that a different way is possible. By supporting GEN through the Green Match Fund, you’re investing in a movement that is shaping the world you want to live in. And because every pound/dollar you give is matched, you’re making twice the impact with a single action.

Celebrate GEN by giving us a match donation gift for Earth Week!

The Power of the Match

Consider this: A £50 donation becomes £100. A £200 donation becomes £400. Imagine the impact if everyone reading this took action today. If our community of people acts together inside a single window, small contributions become a wave.

And in a world where urgency is rising, there’s no better time to give. The match funding won’t last forever. This is your chance to stretch your impact further than ever before.

The match window closes April 29th. After that, donations are still welcome, but they won’t be doubled.

How You Can Participate

  1. Make Your Pledge: Fill out the pledge form to get reminders during Earth Week
  2. Donate Now: Visit GEN’s fundraising page and make your contribution before the match runs out on April 29th.
  3. Spread the Word: Share this opportunity with friends and networks who care about sustainability and community-led action. You can also refer a donor by filling out the form below.

A better future isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we create. And with the Green Match Fund, your role in that creation is more powerful than ever.

Donate today, and let’s build a thriving world together.
