The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is one of the key solutions at the London Climate Action Week roundtable “Emerging from Emergency: Urgency as a catalyst for action & regeneration”. On Thursday 4th July from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM (BST), the Club of Rome will host this high-level Roundtable at Chatham House, “Emerging from Emergency“, on harnessing the momentum generated by the growing climate emergency narrative, to shift from mere declarations to action.
The meeting will convene the various strands of the climate emergency and sustainability space – activists, problem-holders and solution providers – in order to co-design concrete solutions for genuine impact.
In practice, this means nothing less than suspending business-as-usual and doing whatever it takes to achieve net-zero global emissions by 2050 at the very latest. The challenge now is to shift from merely sounding the alarm to giving policy-makers and the business community the policy tools and levers of change which genuinely respond to the emergency. This Roundtable aims to do just that, by acting as a convergence point between the two dimensions of the climate emergency space, by linking advocacy with action, convening activists, problem-holders and solution-providers.
As such, the roundtable’s overarching objective is to offer concrete solutions to the climate emergency; pragmatic takeaways which participants can then develop and implement in their respective fields of work, effecting genuine change at varying levels of governance and society. Real calls to action with timetables and targets. This is the key added value of the Roundtable, convening the disparate strands of the climate emergency and broader sustainability space in order to co-design solutions for genuine impact.
Kosha Joubert, Executive Director of GEN, will give a key intervention on “Session III – Solution-Providers”, expected to happen between 14.20 and 15.30. The other key intervenors for this session are: Nigel Topping (We Mean Business), Chad Frischman (Project Drawdown) and Cynthia Scharf (Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative).

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has declared a climate emergency. As part of London’s response to this, the first ever London Climate Action Week will be held from 1-8 July.
The week will bring together London’s climate expertise and talent from across sectors to run events across the city focused on taking local, national and international action. These events will highlight the scaling up of practical solutions and identifying new solutions to help cut our carbon emissions to keep global temperature increases within 1.5C and support the Paris Agreement.
