The Core Regenerative Activity

Lantan village was primarily known for quarrying and limestone mining activities. However, these
activities ceased after Lantan was officially designated as an ecovillage in 2019. Although the
mining activities have stopped, some environmental impacts persist, making reforestation efforts crucial, especially since 63% of Lantan’s land is forested.

Another key regenerative activity in Lantan is the river clean-up. While the amount of waste in Lantan’s rivers and waterfalls is lower compared to other villages and locations in Lombok, waste disposal remains a significant concern. Both the local community and visitors continue to use the river as a dumping ground, which contributes to pollution.

These activities are important not only for their environmental impact but also for fostering a sense of collective responsibility. Through hands- on experiences and collaborative efforts, our goal is to raise awareness about environmental protection. We aim to encourage both locals and visitors to work together in preserving the environment, promoting co-learning and co-working. Protecting the earth is not just the responsibility of a few—it requires collective action to achieve broader, long- term goals.

Two organisations will manage the activities. Pokdarwis Solah, A youth group dedicated to organizing regenerative tourism activities in the village. And KMPS Akstariya, A youth community group that leads environmental initiatives, including river cleanup and tree planting activities to promote sustainability.

Lantan Village is located at the far end of Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province,
Indonesia with a population of 5162 inhabitants. The name “Lantan” comes from a word in the southern
Lombok dialect meaning “long,” reflecting the village’s geography, which extends towards Mount Rinjani
National Park. Lantan Village is flanked by two rivers, the Babak River and the Lenek River, both of which originate from the foothills of Mount Rinjani. The village is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including rice fields, coffee plantation, forests, and 24 waterfalls.

The Ecovillage experience in Lantan Village offers an immersive eco-tourism adventure surrounded by rivers, lush forests, coffee plantations, and cascading waterfalls. Visitors delve into local culture and environment. Unique experiences such as harvesting in scenic rice paddies, tasting locally grown coffee, and learning traditional handicrafts and ecocrafting provide a window into the village’s lifestyle.

All the people in Lantan Village contribute to this initiative, with active participation from groups such as
the local youth, housewives’ communities, and the women’s farmer group.

Stunning landscapes closed by the ecovillage:

Mount Rinjani, one of Indonesia’s most popular trekking destinations. Gili Islands, famous for white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life, just a short boat ride from Lombok’s coast and make for an unforgettable beach and snorkeling getaway. Lombok Island is dotted with stunning beaches, from the popular Kuta Beach with its lively vibe to the serene.

Selong Belanak Beach, ideal for surfing and swimming. These beaches are easily accessible by car and showcase the island’s beautiful coastline. Sasak culture can be explored in traditional villages like Sade and Ende. Here, visitors can see traditional Sasak homes, handicrafts, and experience local traditions
firsthand.

Since 2017, these triplets have dedicated their lives to transforming Lantan into an ecotourism-based village
embracing a vision that integrates travels with the natural and cultural wealth our village already possesses.
This initiative is built on a deep respect for Lantan’s abundant natural resources, rich traditions, and timeless wisdom. Rather than merely attracting visitors, they aim to create meaningful exchanges where travelers do not just witness, but truly experience and learn from the land and its people.

Through this approach, they strive to redefine Lantan tourism. It is not just about visiting a place; it is about becoming part of a living ecosystem that prioritizes sustainability, community empowerment, and cultural preservation. By placing local voices at the heart of this movement, they ensure that growth does not only benefits the economy but also the environment and new generations to come.

Lantan is no longer just a rural village. It is a place where people connect, share, and grow together, a testament to how tourism, when guided by purpose and respect, can uplift an entire community.
