The challenge

In the face of growing environmental problems and the apparent incapability of our society to transform its sociotechnical configurations and social practices to reduce its impact on the environment, higher education has the responsibility of educating professionals and individuals who can lead these changes. We need innovative pedagogical approaches that mobilise the new
generations to leave apathy behind and seek the transformation of reality towards a more sustainable and cooperative society.

"It is evident that the development of critical citizens and professionals who can lead profound changes in society demands that students are able to reflect on their place in the world, to stop the frenetic pace of social reproduction to question their goals in life and to bring meaning to what they are studying and seeking. Our results demonstrate that scientific knowledge, practical knowledge and personal development can be connected as important elements of an education for sustainability transitions."
