About the Solutions

Overview

Our previsions show that the peak interest rate for African fashion and design, rests with youth and according to these metrices, these include young professionals in their mid to late 30’s. This is the segment that most benefits from and pays for our products. Key resources for running our business as things stand now are: finance, tools networks and skills.

Our key activities entail: the design process of fabric, to turn them into clothes, the sewing and putting together of the clothes and ultimately marketing of the clothes via various platforms and outlets. These would include, buying of fabric, cutting and designing the fabric, sewing the cut pieces together and finally applying finishing touches for the completion of the clothes.

We are setup to bring about a change in thinking in the minds of young people. We are looking to stir up a change in thinking around identity with regards to dressing and attire. In essence, this would be; what it means to be African in the 21st century and how to successfully enable young Africans embrace and embody the meaning behind that identity. We are also aiming to bring about a change in thinking and understanding around the concept of success and the skills and knowledge needed to attain success. In this manner, we can effectively stir up interest and eventually growth within less obvious fields of work, for young people.”

The Result:
After successfully prototyping and sampling a few designs which we’re looking to develop, it was noticed that there is a huge interest for African fashion designs which have started to reemerge among African youth. This led us to conclude that there is indeed a shift occuring within the minds of young Africans and this has therefore raised awareness and interest for African fashion and design.

The challenge

The project is addressing cultural and economic issues and the core group of people experiencing these challenges are youth; African youth to be precise.

We create our designs, by employing local techniques to create innovative and trendy fashion designs from local and recycled materials, marketing them via an online platform, to an increasingly mobile technology-oriented customer base, that is young and eager to all that the African fashion industry has to offer.
