Macaco Tamerice

Macaco Tamerice (Martina Grosse Burlage) has been living in Damanhur, Federation of Communities as a full-time citizen since 1993. For several years she has been working in international relations for Damanhur, Federation of Communities and is one of Damanhur’s Ambassadors.
In 2008, she became Vice President of the Global Ecovillage Network-Europe (GEN Europe). In 2010 she was elected President and held this position until 2015. She is now serving as GEN Ambassador and UN Representative as well as on the Advisory Board of GEN-International. She is also the President of the NGO Damanhur Education.
Macaco is an international speaker, facilitator and has been teaching and organizing Ecovillage Design Education trainings for over 8 years.
Trained in music and voice, she has toured as a professional jazz singer in Europe, Canada and Japan for over twenty years. She has also taught voice and led classes and seminars since 1984.
Fluent in five languages, trained in community-building, leadership and conflict resolution during the last 25 years, Macaco has held important roles of social and artistic responsibility in the community of Damanhur.
She has been active in many fields of sustainability, from the social realm and economy to renewable energy and eco-building, and she lives in a straw bale house that she built together with her husband, a Peruvian architect.

As a solution-based, multi-stakeholder alliance, GEN provides information, tools, examples, and representation to the expanding global network dedicated to demonstrating principles and practices of sustainability in their lifestyles and communities.
