Raines Cohen

Cohousing Coach, EcoVillage Ambassador and Aging-in-Community Community Organizer

Weaving community connections for four decades. Linking the cohousing, intentional communities and EcoVillage movements. Working on Aging-in-Community strategies for living well together as we get older. Slow Money investor in sustainable communities.

For four decades, Raines has been weaving community connections -- first with computer user groups, technical communities of practice, and now with real-world intentional communities, cohousing neighborhoods and EcoVillages. He has lived in two US cohousing neighborhoods, advised many, and visited over 100, in addition to other sorts of communities around the world. He's served on the Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC) and Cohousing Association national boards, and co-organizes the world's largest IC MeetUp group, with over 4700 members in East Bay Cohousing alone, part of a network stretching up and down the Golden State. He works as a Cohousing Coach, helping people find and co-create sustainable neighborhoods, planting the seeds of EcoVillages. He's on national boards for Sage-ing International and the Life Planning Network, and wrote about Senior Cohousing in the Aging in Community chapter in the book Audacious Aging. He has invested his retirement savings into communities, helping an arts co-op buy itself and helping Fair Oaks EcoHousing get a construction loan.

Primary interests: Culture (Vision & Purpose, Mindfulness & Self Reflection); Integral Design (Contextualised Design); Ecology (Renewable Energy & Transport); Economy (Social Entrepreneurship)
