Narara Ecovillage (NEV) is situated at Narara, close to Gosford and the main train line to Sydney, NSW, Australia. In 2026, 120 of us are living in our homes on site and more committed future residents are coming. Founder Lyndall Parris’s dream of a vibrant intergenerational community is myceliating.
Our Aim is to create a thriving, inspiring and inclusive inter-generational community that nurtures connection, collaboration, innovation and fun. We aim to live with kindness, aware of our interdependence with others and the natural world. We will be financially viable, and use Sociocratic governance and other regenerative approaches to foster resilience in a changing world.
We have active GEN Australia representation. Our Research Circle report our projects against the GEN Map of Regeneration, UN SDGs and One Planet Living.
Narara Ecovillage is moving from the intensive development of its homes and physical infrastructure into its next phase: strengthening community life and becoming a learning node for regenerative ways of living, working and playing together.
Socially, Narara uses Sociocracy for participatory governance and has developed community practices including a Conflict Resolution Pathway, shared meals, working bees, celebrations and monthly visitor programs.
Culturally, the village is deepening relationships with local First Nations people through activities that connect members with Country, alongside Bunya gatherings, Deep Ecology, music, storytelling and seasonal celebrations.
Ecologically, Narara combines energy-efficient homes, a renewable-energy smart grid and community battery, its own water systems, bush regeneration, habitat protection, food production and low-emissions transport.
Economically, it demonstrates patient community finance and supports local enterprises including the food cooperative, market garden, nursery, Coffee Cart, tours and education programs
