Through the Global Ecovillage Network’s River of Life, brave and generous women from the Western World are financially enabling outstanding women leaders to continue their work at the forefront of community-led strategies for sustainable change in the Global South. The friendships and multi-faceted support are mutual.
Another River of Life member shares this:
“The year 2017 was full of successes and challenges. The ongoing protest in Southern Cameroon did not make work any fun this year. I have watched many youths brutalized by the military that is suppose to protect them, many dead by the gun and the community continues to live in anger and fury for the present government. The government shut down Internet completely for this region for the most part of 2017 and as I write, we have no access to social media.
This situation has not only affected my work within GEN Africa, but it has equally affected Better World Cameroon (organization where I work) and many other nonprofits and businesses in Cameroon have suffered the times. It has been a real art to live and thrive within these systems as I continuously wish and pray for peace, justice and freedom to prevail.
Amidst the struggle, I have made a lot of progress in my life and work. I am proud of my un/learnings and share with you a key harvest of the year: my engagement in a network as huge as GEN brings a wide array of contacts and opportunities beneficial for my professional and political growth, but there are many edges involved to maintain and keep these relationships. ”
