What we do

From the first idea buying a “Château dans le Sud” to build an Ecovillage in the Greek Mountains, was “just a jump to the left – and then a step to the right…” End of 2021. Within a meditation session, there was suddenly a clear picture with the directive building a new “Arche Noah” for family, friends and similar minded people.
Finishing the talking and discussion round what mother earth and its children need and start implementing a vision, start doing positive actions for the nature and the people. What better place to start such kind of project than Greece, the cradle of Philosophie, Democracy and Humanitarian disciplines…
The name “Hortus Cyrenaicus” is related to Aristippos of Cyrene, a follower of Socrates who then built his own philosophical approach of “how to enjoy life”. There may have been misinterpretations that reflect on a hedonistic life style, but there could be also seen interpretations for living a “Happy Life” without existing “leadership” and unnecessary side impacts of “Civilisation” in harmony with the nature. This comes to the point: – A garden of a happy life… a place to enjoy life with family and friends in a clean and sustainable nature.
In 2025 we do have the goal to allocate residents for the 6 land plots (total about 1 ha land) who are interested to join the conception and who are ready to invest 40.000 Euro to compensate the costs of water and electricity preparations. As well as for the use of the land. These investments are scheduled to be used for expanding the territory of the Hortus Cyrenaicus for further residents in 2026 and 2027. The overall goal is to allocate 20 active residents in total taking over individual parts of the farm. Details will be agreed on individually with each resident.
We would be happy addressing this call to find potential active residents, Sponsors Donors and other supporters to bring the Hortus Cyrenaicus to an operational level, enabling us to contribute a little bit to the future of the planet.

How to join

We are finishing now the complete electricity construction with 80 KW solar energy, 55 kw batteries, thermosolar heaters and a full water supply solar driven coming from 2 own licensed water drills. We have currently space for 6 families, couples or singles taking over an own piece of land and joining the community. We are not religious nor political oriented, but we are open for music, arts and cultural activities and do look first of all on the nature and the land to be in a good condition and to plant what we do need for living.
There is potential for new members taking over live stock, grains, vegetable production, bees, fish and many more things.

Communities for Future Online Summit

The Communities for Future Summit is an entirely free, online experience hosted by the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). From the 1 to 10 February 2020 we will daily unlock 3 interviews with well known thought leaders, change makers, indigenous elders, community lovers and youth activists from around the planet. During the Summit, we will explore: Systemic change – a complete transformation of our human institutions and workplaces, Inner change – the inner healing that is needed in order for us to heal our relationships to the world around us; Change on the Ground – how communities around the planet are already becoming space of regeneration; and Youth Change – the young people who are taking to the streets, raising their voices and demanding climate justice for future generations. Together, we will engage in finding our authentic response to the Climate Emergency, a response that is not driven by urgency, fear, panic and hurry, but comes from a deep sense of connectedness, love and responsibility. Young people are taking to the streets, demanding that we all take urgent action on the climate and planetary crisis. GEN is picking up the baton and inviting all of us to manifest the needed change now, protecting, restoring and transforming in our communities, municipalities and countries. Let’s build Communities for Future. Let’s find our response to the Climate Emergency. Please join us.
