Treehouse Village Ecohousing began with a dream: to create a neighbourhood where people know and support each other, while caring for the Earth. That dream grew into a multi-year journey of planning, designing, and building a community rooted in sustainability and connection.
We are Atlantic Canada’s first cohousing community, nestled in 15-acres of forest in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia (Sin So’sepe’katik) on the scenic South Shore of Nova Scotia, which is on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people.
We are parents, children, retirees, teachers, writers, digital workers, social workers, carpenters, environmental educators, and more. Ranging in age from one year to 80+, we hail from Bridgewater, elsewhere in Nova Scotia, across Canada, and internationally. Besides English, we speak French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Dutch.
Treehouse Village includes 30 private condos designed with energy efficiency in mind, along with shared spaces that encourage community interaction. A Common House serves as the hub for communal meals, events, and gatherings. Outdoor amenities include gardens, play areas, walking paths, 11 acres of undeveloped forest, and natural green spaces that make the most of the surrounding environment.
Together, residents share responsibility for maintaining our spaces and supporting a neighbourhood centered on social connection, environmental sustainability, and multigenerational living.
