What we do

Established in 2022, Taiao Ora Farm is located 11kms south of Ōamaru on the East Coast of Aotearoa. It overlooks the Kakanui Mountains and includes 4 acres of common land with a Common House, solar electricity, 3 tiny houses, an orchard and food garden. Taiao Ora means ‘Healthy Environment’ and embodies our purpose.
Our Mission: to create and benefit from affordable housing that is a model of healthy, sustainable, community living in Ōamaru
Our Vision: everyone has sovereignty of their food and housing
The structure
Taiao Ora Farm is a registered NZ Company and shareholding members are Directors and Shareholders of the Company that owns 2 acres of common land and leases 2 acres of KiwiRail land. We also have flatmates, WOOFers, workshop attendees and community members who participate in our project. Each house site is big enough for a tiny house and surrounding garden. The ecovillage currently consists of 2 shareholding families with room for expansion. We use Sociocracy as our method for collective decision making. We have a Shareholder Agreement with all of our processes, protocols and policies so that our decisions by consensus are also legally binding. We are happy to share our Shareholder Agreement with others seeking a template for agreements to establish their own ecovillage project.
The community
The community currently consists of 3 adults (age range early 40s to early 50s), a cat and two dogs. As a community we are committed to working collectively to meet our needs and work towards living sustainably on a permaculture path. Groups of us work together on common land and building projects as required.
Community Buildings and Land
The Common House is used for community meetings, workshops, events, meals and celebrations. Shared access to toilets, showers, kitchen, solar electricity, toolshed and workshop, as well as woodlots, orchards and pastures.

Social Media Intern for GEN International Hours: Up to 20/month, flexible around your schedule and availability Location: Remote, work with Eva Goldfarb Focus: Instagram + LinkedIn (TikTok if you’re into it!) Hi! I’m Eva, and I run social media for GEN International — the global network connecting ecovillages, intentional communities, and regenerative culture-builders across every continent. I’m looking for a co-conspirator to help me tell the stories of the people quietly building the future: off-grid villages in the Philippines, permaculture farms in Senegal, urban cohousing projects in Berlin, elders passing down land wisdom in the Andes. It’s a wildly rich, wildly underrepresented world, and I want more people to fall in love with it the way I have. What you’ll actually do: Dream up and create content for Instagram and LinkedIn (reels, carousels, stories, captions that don’t sound like a corporate newsletter) Dig into our global network and turn your findings into stories people want to share Pitch your own ideas. If there’s a series, a theme, a format, or a corner of the network that lights you up, that’s what I want you to focus on. What we’re looking for: A natural storyteller, someone who can spot the human thread in a project update or a photo from a faraway village Genuinely curious about ecovillages, sustainability, intentional community, regenerative living Self-motivated and communicative; this is a flexible, trust-based role Why this role: This isn’t a “post 3x a week and don’t ask questions” internship. You’ll have real creative freedom to work on what excites you, learn how a global grassroots network tells its story, and build a portfolio full of meaningful, purpose-driven content. Plus you’ll be talking to people living some of the most interesting, intentional lives on the planet. If storytelling for a better world sounds like your kind of fun, let’s talk.

Transformational Communities of Tomorrow - free live stream

Sign up here to join the free live stream. Ken Wilber and Doshin Roshi Honouring the role communities have played in the transformation of the world up until now – the movement from modernity to postmodernity. Highlighting the pain and struggles within these organisations – beliefs, values and preferences that contribute to a sense of ‘stuckness’. Creating curiosity about the medicine needed to support a breakthrough to the next level – what might communities of tomorrow look like once they have embodied this medicine? Sharing inspiration and support to expand the potential of each community – deepening the transformational impulse around the world. Join in as this event will be streamed live to communities, holistic centres and ecovillages around the world. The transformational and eco communities of today grew out of the 1960s era that has been called postmodern—the gifts of multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion, sensitivity, eco awareness. Some of the struggles include co-creating healthy hierarchies, effective decision making, attracting younger people, financial sustainability. Ken Wilber outlines the significance of this rare dialogue offered as a free live broadcast to post modern communities around the world, one that focuses on growing up, waking up, cleaning up and showing up: “The postmodern communities of transformation, including Findhorn, did two profoundly important things: in relative truth, they introduced an enchanted world instead of the disenchanted wasteland; and in ultimate Truth, they simpl
