Greetings from the Council of Sustainable Settlements of Latin America (CASA Latina)!
We are thrilled to share with you the latest developments from our efforts in Quintana Roo, Riviera Maya, Mexico, where we’ve been tirelessly working to strengthen our community and environmental initiatives.
Our endeavors have been centered around the Sanctuaries of Life and Peace Program, a groundbreaking initiative spanning multiple locations including Ixixtlan, Xieltun, Ekumal, La Casa de los Niños del Árbol, and Akalki. Through this program, we have declared Ixixtlan a Sanctuary of Peace and established the Tree Children’s House as a Community Living Aula.
One of the most inspiring aspects of our work has been the interconnectedness of our community-building efforts. We’ve brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, including esteemed elders from various regions, to emphasize the importance of unity and consciousness awakening. Through activities such as singing, dancing, and ceremonial gatherings, we’ve woven a tapestry of brotherhood and purpose.
Our commitment to environmental awareness and action has been unwavering. Visits to sacred sites such as the temple of Ixchel and Chichen Itza have underscored the importance of preserving our natural ecosystems. We’ve come to understand the devastating impact of modern developments like the Mayan Train on our environment and local communities.
In our pursuit of cultural exchange and education, we’ve hosted workshops, ceremonies, and forums such as RenaSer and the Canto al Agua Ceremony. These events have served as platforms for sharing knowledge and experiences on pressing environmental issues.
Transitioning from the camp in Xieltun to co-living in Ekumal exemplifies our commitment to sustainable living practices, including bioarchitecture and permaculture. Our efforts in Ekumal have not only focused on environmental stewardship but also on promoting a culture of peace and harmony.
As part of the initiative to launch “Regenera Accion Maya” in the Bio-Region, we partnered with the Eco-Feria, Regenweek’24, Resilience Project, and Gaia Education at Ekumal for the Mini-Ecovillage Design Education and the Training of the Trainers. We foster collaboration and knowledge exchange by weaving the movement of the Rights of Mother Earth with all who feel called to action.
Engaging with local communities has been instrumental in fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for caring for the environment and promoting peace.
Our work in Quintana Roo has been both fulfilling and impactful. We are proud of the strides we have made in strengthening our community and environmental initiatives.
