Ixixtlan is beautiful ecovillage located near Atlixco, Puebla, that allows for the mind and body to come into balance again. Since its foundation, Ixixtlan has become a site for “recreational education” through the art of holistic practices stimulating creativity, self-knowledge and harmonious relationships. Situated in atop a large hill in Atlixco overlooking two big volcanoes, the site is home to several beautiful bio-constructions based on sacred geometry. This includes spaces for meditation and ceremonies.
The community also serves as a space for workshops, holistic healing, sacred dances, educational and environmental programmes, as well as for ceremonies and spiritual meetings. For these reasons, amongst others, Ixixtlan is an energetic place that serves as a vehicle for awakening through the space, the community, and the various practices followed.
With regards to agriculture, the community employs traditional or pre-industrial methods that seek to maintain the natural structure and health of the soil, avoiding the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds. Growing organically requires using biological resources to fertilise plants, control pests, etc, and common techniques include rotating crops over time, composting animal waste and plant materials, and use of cover crops.
