Weaving Resilience

About the course

Overview

**As the course has started, enrollment is now closed. If you received an email that you are part of the course and have any challenges, reach out to re********@********ge.org

Resilience is the capacity of a system to live and develop with change, uncertainty and disturbance. In a social-ecological system, resilience reflects the capacity to sustain human well-being in the face of change, by buffering shocks, adapting, and when necessary, transforming. In this course, you will actively engage with the complexity around you, enabling you to begin on a more sustainable and just, future pathway, for yourself, family, community or organisation.

What we will cover

We will spend time understanding, engaging with, and mapping personal and interpersonal resilience, and why we are doing this work. There will be space to look at your own context more deeply by doing some practical exercises using the tree model and working with system dynamics. We will honour the land and all those that came before us, our ancestors and elders, by listening and connecting. We will dive into looking at tipping points at a global level and exploring regional and local tipping points. We will then focus on the importance of this work to also envision future scenarios and develop strategic pathways. And finally we will explore resilience attributes and how these can be used to help strengthen resilience over time.

Who is this course for

This course is for any one who is interested in deepening their understanding of social-ecological system dynamics of their community or organisation. We also create the space for those who want to understand their own personal and interpersonal resilience and how this interconnects with the wider whole. We will explore strategic actions to address sustainability challenges, while building capacity for adaptive and transformative change.

What you will get out of this course

  • Deepen understanding of resilience of social-ecological systems
  • Understand personal and interpersonal resilience
  • Explore tipping points and the impact of climate change and polycrisis on our communities.
  • Create space to connect with the Earth and your ancestors
  • Envision alternative future scenarios and develop strategic pathways.
  • Explore local, bioregional and regional resilience

Frequently asked questions

I’ve just arrived here, where should I start?

If you are just getting to know GEN, we recommend you start with the GEN Intro course which will give you the frame of how the network and organisation flow.

A live course will be offered at set times and invites you to engage with a facilitator and other participants. A self-paced course means you can engage in the content as your schedule allows. We also offer courses where you engage in the content yourself and then join gently facilitated group discussions to connect with others.

Visit the Community Events page to see what is available or contact your region.

No! We strive to serve a range of audiences and believe that ecovillage tools can be applied in a range of contexts.
