An Ecovillage and Learning center on Ecovillage Design, Permaculure and Deep Ecology
Gaia Ashram is a community-based education center with a focus on permaculture, deep ecology, natural building, ecovillage design education, and many other sustainable living practices. Gaia Ashram is also a forming ecovillage with currently 8 permanent members and is expanding. We also provide trainings, workshops, and courses for children, international students and guests, and Asian youth.
We offer volunteer and internship opportunities for people of all ages from around the world. Participants in our volunteering and internship programs have the chance to gain practical skills related to a range of tasks. Volunteer work depends on what's happening and what's needed during time period the volunteer is present. A few examples of projects volunteers and interns might help out with include:
-Natural building (cob, adobe)
-Permaculture gardening (planting, harvesting, pruning, mulching, maintenance of the land and gardens)
-Cleaning around the community
-Making eco-bricks
-Various types of composting
-Working with animals, like chickens and ducks
-Working with bees
Gaia Ashram is currently based and take care of on 13.5 hectares of land located in the North-East of Thailand near Nong Khai and the Laos border of Vientiane. The philosophy behind what we do is based on Ecovillage Design principles, deep ecology (or spiritual ecology), and permaculture design principles.
We are actively seeking more long-term community members to join the Gaia team. Members pass through the stages of volunteering and interning first, and through this process, both sides can see if there's a fit for a long-term collaboration.
