Munksøgård is situated near Roskilde on Zeeland just half an hour by train from Copenhagen. The community’s focus is on finding solutions to living in ways that are environmentally sustainable together with people from different backgrounds.
Munksøgård sonsists of 100 houses divided into 5 groups of two-storey buildings each situated around a farmhouse which acts as the common house for eating together and hosting social events. The different groups are composed of different types of ownership and occupants. 20 of the houes are owned, 20 are for rent, 20 are co-operative flats, 20 are youth apartments (under 31 years old) and 20 are for seniors (over 50 years old). Every group has common spaces and rooms for guests, for children to play in and a dinning room. In addition
There is also an area of 24 hectares around the village used for organic farming. This therefore makes it the largest ecological building project in Denmark and the first “mainstream” ecological project.
