What we do

The Museum of Digital Society is a community-centred learning ecosystem documenting the journey of digital development in India. Located near Auroville, Tamil Nadu, the museum is a visual and experiential learning space, that offers a chance to pause and encourages critical reflection on digital technology.
Socially-oriented and anthropologically curious, the museum is an initiative of the Digital Empowerment Foundation, born from its archive of stories from the last 25 years, working across the most rural and remote parts of India to bridge the digital divide. Built almost entirely from repurposed, reclaimed and refurbished materials, the museum is committed to circularity, sustainability and upcycling.
In close harmony with its natural surroundings, the museum offers a chance to live, immerse in and engage with nature. Through its GI park, community kitchen, residential units and maker-space, the museum organises educational tours, workshops and activities, hosts retreats and cultural events, and has worked closely with the surrounding community to position itself as a key community learning space in the Pondicherry-Auroville region.
