A better way to live already exists.

Single-use cups are a major environmental issue. Even most so-called compostable cups end up in landfill. The aim of The Cup Project is to eliminate the use of disposable cups. The goal is to invite customers to reflect on the environmental impact of single-use and consider recyclable alternatives. The approach is an 8-week feasibility study, offering alternatives to single-use cups, “Koha Jars”, which we will provide to participating cafes in Grey Lynn for free. Prior to launching the project at the Grey Lynn cafes, there will be one month of collecting jars and making heat​bands for them. This will be facilitated by participating schools and community groups. Ongoing working groups will be set up for the entirety of the feasibility study.

A two-week course of log house construction is suitable for everyone who wants to learn the basics of this type construction. The whole process of constructing a small log house will cover several areas: How to prepare the logs: – ordering suitable timber – marking, measuring, selecting logs – removing the bank and peeling logs How to build a wall: – the basic principles – choosing the first log – choosing the following logs for the wall – drawing and cutting notches – drawing and cutting saddle notches and grooves – making window and door holes During the course you will build a small house from pine logs. Previous skills in the field of construction from logs are not required, but you must be aware that you will do a lot of physical work during the course, so be physically prepared. The course will also cover some short theoretical lectures in the classroom, but most of the course will be practical work on the site.

‘Eco Village Design Education’ conducted at Siddharth Village, Odisha, India is a transforming experience. The course is designed with EDE mandala as base, integrating the ‘World view’, ‘Social’, ‘Economic’ and ‘Ecology’ dimensions. ‘World view’ and ‘Social’ dimensions are process oriented. During this week we will explore what it means to create and to be community. We will use permaculture principles, permaculture design and practices from indigenous cultures worldwide as our main toolbox. It will enable students to play an active and transformative role in communities as we meet the challenge of transitioning to low carbon, high well-being and resilient places and systems. Queremos ofrecer un Curso en el que aprender, experimentar y profundizar en algunos aspectos de la Bioconstrucción, de manera profesional, familiar y cercana al mismo tiempo. La Bioconstrucción es un campo muy amplio, por eso hemos decidido dividir este curso intensivo en 2 Módulos específicos: El Primer módulo es Fuego y Barro, y en el trabajaremos elementos como: Estufas de masa térmica, hornos de leña, estufas rocket, adobe,….. Aprendiendo a construir con materiales sanos y naturales, adaptados a nuestro hogar y necesidades; para obtener una mayor eficiencia, salud y calidez en nuestro hogar y cuidar en medio ambiente al mismo tiempo. EL segundo módulo es Estructuras Vegetales Naturales, y en este trabajaremos la construcción de estructuras tales como: domo geodésico, yurta, techos de cañizo, arcos y columnas de cañas, que pueden ser urilizadas para construcción de pérgolas, invernaderos, sombreados, escenarios y mucho más….; todo ello con materiales locales vegetales: caña y pita (ágave). Las personas interesadas pueden apuntarse a los dos módulo o también solo a uno, el que más les interese. El grupo va a ser reducido, entre un mínimo de 4 y un máximo de 6 personas; Ya que nuestra intención es poder crear, durante los días del curso, una micro comunidad de aprendizaje e intercambio de saberes y experiencias, donde todas las personas tengan su espacio y atención y en el que, así mismo, podamos co-diseñar los detalles del proceso de aprendizaje y decidir todas juntas en que áreas o aspectos queremos profundizar.
