The past year marked yet another period of liveliness and resilience among our member Ecovillages. As the wheel of the year kept on turning, many of our fellow communities reached their milestone years, proving the true sustainability of our common actions. At the same time, new communities arose, and the network opened the doors for them to thrive and continuously co-create another world being born.
The year of many milestones
Over the past year, many ecovillages within the GEN EU network have celebrated significant milestones, highlighting the enduring strength and impact of the Ecovillage movement.
Just under a year ago, the Danish Ecovillage Network, LOES, marked its 30th anniversary, an occasion we were thrilled to share here. This year, several other networks are celebrating their birthdays: GEN Germany and GEN Netherlands are each commemorating their 10th anniversary, while GEN Ukraine celebrates 5 years of its vibrant network.
This year also marks major anniversaries for three iconic ecovillages: Ecovillage Los Portales turns 40, Torri Superiore celebrates 35 years, and Tamera reaches its 30th anniversary. Additionally, Arterra Bizimodu and Sunny Hill ecovillages both celebrated their 10-year anniversaries this year!
Stay tuned for more reflections on these remarkable celebrations!
Busha Toloka
The community house in Busha, Ukraine, was a project initiated as a response to the start of the war to serve as a refugee shelter in the short term and as an event space and community centre in the long term. The idea was born in the summer of 2022 at the European Ecovillage Gathering in Denmark. On May 18, 2024, the now-completed Busha Toloka project was finally formally opened with the GEN representatives and handed over to the Busha Toloka community!

Ecoprojects joining GEN Europe!
During the passing year we were thrilled to unveil a dynamic new membership category aimed at embracing a wider spectrum of regenerative projects: The so called Ecoprojects.
This innovative addition opened our doors to a variety of initiatives from urban co-housing communities to permaculture farms, learning centers, and eco-tourism destinations.
Each project, while unique in its approach, shares a common commitment to our ecovillage principles, fostering ecological and social reGENeration.
